Automatic Transmission Truck's MPGs?

I know that the Dodges with the manual transmissions can achieve some pretty stellar fuel mileage.

But I have always thought that the automatic transmissions would take away some of that.

If you have an automatic transmission in your 5.9L Dodge Cummins, what kind of fuel mileage do you see?

15 mpg and that includes towing a smallish lawn care trailer house to house (or business to business) 3 days a week.

16 MPG. Mixed highway and city driving. Empty.
19.5 MPG. Highway only. Empty.
14 MPG. Two quads on a 6x14 trailer. Mostly highway. Lots of hills.
All by hand.
Overhead is pretty close compared to others, though.

16 around town driving to and from work empty
20-21 highway driving cruse set on 65
17-18 highway driving cruse se on 75
This is with a leveling kit and 315, I could get better if I didnt have the lift and tires.

OK, maybe I'm the exception.

With Quad box on 65HP setting.
Towing just under 20K average 10-12. Hilly...10 flat around 12

Quad box on sw 1 city mileage
Mixed driving 15-16

Empty last Christmas
Quad sw 1 as above
21.7 from Tampa Fl to Jackson Mi 21 hours
21.6 from Jackson Mi to Tampa Fl 2 days driving this way

This is all pen & paper figured, overhead is substantually off with the Quad.

Mileage is at 21000 now and Florida trip was at around 17,000 miles.
None of my driving is babying the truck, Towing I'm right at 70 MPH and havent found 60-65 to get me any noticably better mileage.
Florida trip was at mostly 75-80 mph.
and mixed is just that, mixed.

I've had mine for 2 months now, it is bone stock and up to 18,000 miles now. Here's some mileage numbers:

Around town empty 16-16.5 mpg
Highway at 80 mph 18 mpg
Towing 8700# at 70 mph 11.5 mpg

I'm hoping it improves as the motor gets broken in, but regardless it's far better than my gas truck was.

Total Mileage 23127
Total Ave MPG 13.64
Best Ever 15.32
Towing Ave 10.04
I do not get near what everyone else gets. I fill the tank to the neck each time, hand calculate every one on a spreadsheet. The mileage is getting better each tank but no where near other peoples. Mileage is of by .0021 short of a true mile through gps and Odometer setting.

17 to 20 mpg, depending on speed, wind direction, terrain, etc. And that's unloaded mpg.

false assumption

It's been my experience that you actually get slightly better mpg's with the automatic on the highway because of the taller OD, despite the inherent inefficiencies of the slushbox.
