Air conditoner problem?????
I've been having a problem with my a/c that I dont know how to fix. Maybe some of you might know what to do. When I turn on the a/c it only blows cold on the drivers side .air comes out of the passenger vents but its hot.It will blow cold on the passenger side after about 20 minutes. any body got any ideas?
Blend door is broken. This is a common problem. If it is still under warranty take it to the dealer. The entire dash has to be removed to replace it. If your truck is out of warranty, remove the blower motor and reach up into the hole and remove the blend door. You will not be able to fix it this way, but it will work OK without the blend door.
Thanks so much I didn't any Idea what to do. I haven't look but do you get to the blow from inside the truck or under the hood.If I take out the blender will it still switch back and forth to defrost and the other operations?
Ok I pulled the blower and got to the blender.no difference and now it wont switch between inside outside and recyled air. It could be freon but why would it blow ice cold on one side and not the other?
If you removed the inside blend door you will no longer be able to select between inside and outside air. It is a trade off
if you are out of warranty and do not want to pay the dealer $700 + to repair.
I do not know why the drivers side vents are colder than the passengers when low on freon, only know that it fixed mine when it was doing the same thing.

I had a problem with mine that sounds similar to yours. It would not blow very cold and when on MAX it something would rattle. Come to find out the recirculation door was broken. Just something to think about.
I have the same problem with mine but after about half an hour mine freezes up. Same situation as above hot air out of the passenger side ice cold on the drivers side. I removed the recirculation door . That was a mistake, made my problem worse. Know I have to figure out how to fix that. Can you access any of this stuff if you take out the glove box? Any body Know what the a/c gauges should read when the system is full since there is no sight glass? Thanks, I appreciate any info.

High side should be about 2.2-2.5 times the outside ambient air temperature. In other words if it is a 100 degree day the hi side guage should read 220_250 PSI. I would shoot for the low end of this range. The low side should be around 60 psi if you dont have any restrictions. Anyways this is how I do it. I'm no A/C tech but I manage to muddle through most of this.

Number one rule of A/C charging
Number one rule is never charge from the High pressure side as this could cause a freon can explosion and do severe damage to your body. Always charge from the low side suction line.
Number two rule of A/C charging is never! never! never! turn the freon can upside down and dump liquid in the system as this would likely cause severe compressor damage.
Number three rule is dont over charge it as this will cause high head pressure and do the same damage as dumping liquid in.
When I charge I have the engine at hi idle 1200 rpm's
with the A/C fan speed on high in recirculating position with the temperature control all the way down with all windows closed . I also have someone monitor the air flow temperature from the closest vent, I am looking for about 60 degree air temp from here when ths high side pressure is correct.
Anyways this is my method, seems to work for me. I'm no expert but I have a friend that is.

Added almost 1 whole can of freon. It fixed the freezing up and the warm air out of the passenger vents but I sure wish I hadn't messed with the blend door. Is there any access to that part with out removing the whole a/c coil assembly from under the dash? I sure wish these trucks had a sight glass in the lines so a guy could tell when it's getting low.
I went auto zone and bought the can of freon with the gauge already on it. Started the truck with air in the recirc. mode. It said on the can to charge it to about 35 psi. Thats what I did and now I can hang meat in the back seat. Hope this helps.
