Adding Gauges
Hey everyone.
Had a couple of questions for you. I've got a 07 5.9 2500, quad cab, 4x4, auto and I tow quite a bit (hence the truck). I've read a lot about the extra gauges (turbo, trans temp, and I believe exhaust temp) that are nice to have especially if you tow a lot. What I'm wondering, because I'm not at all handy is if you can have your local dodge dealer do this and what you would expect to pay, or if you have other options to get this done.
Thanks in advance,
-Ryan

Your local dealer probably wouldn't have a clue what the gauges are for or how to instal them. If you don't want to do them yourself, maybe one of our members in your area would give you a hand or a local diesel shop could do it. Gauges really aren't tough to instal and they usually come with instructions.
I'd never installed gauges before I did the ones in my truck. I don't really consider myself mechanically gifted, but I did change the glow plugs on my Ford PSD, I do most of the maintenance on my cars, and I've done a little bit of wiring, etc., so I figured I'd give the gauges a try.
It wasn't too bad - I did have a friend that had more wiring experience than I do help a little bit, but for the most part it wasn't that bad.
If you look at my pics gallery you'll see the gauges installed, and you'll notice that I installed the pyrometer post-turbo, because that's how I use the truck (no mods, and am using the gauges for more watching for anomalies and cool down temps). You can do a bunch of searches on this site about the pre- and post- turbo opinions. To each their own.
Like stated before, go to one of the local diesel meets and talk to some of the guys there, and see what they have installed, or find a diesel or high-performance shop. They should be able to do a better job installing the gauges than the dealership. Not that I'm bashing the dealerships - there are some decent ones out there - but the diesel or high performance shops would have more experience with installing gauges.

Thanks for the information...
I guess my next question would be what gauges should I really be looking at?
I'm guessing the following:
Tranie-Temp
Turbo-Temp (EGT?)
Turbo-pressure
I'm thinking that I'd like the gauges installed along the rail going up along the door, and I think 3 looks good (I remember seeing some of the other members - nice job btw) and that layout seemed to catch my eye.
Also, could someone tell me what all is needed to do an install for each of those gauges? I'm willing to consider trying it, although I must admit the Turbo-Temp and the drilling does make me a tad nervous, but I don't know what is required for the others.
Thanks,
-Ryan

Go for the commander by Quadzilla products. Have all your guages in one! Very nice package, and compared to 3 single guages, better price! Call Lary in the DTR store to get a great deal!

i would not trust the dealer to do it- if they had the brains to install them- i would imagine it would be a hack job. do it yourself or find a diesel shop. probably will pay a pretty penny to have them installed.
I called a local diesel shop here in vegas and they quoted me 75 a gauge except for the tranny gauge cuz they have to drop the pan.. they said for all three gauges ( boost, pyro and tranny temp ) installed and with a new tranny filter and fluid 350$..
