Is 75/90 OK????
I have always used amsoil 75/90 or 110 because I pull on weekends. Dodge supposedly issued a TSB saying they recommend 140??? I have been told that the 75/90 is used in Semi trucks as well. I tried the 140 in my truck and it didn't work well. The 75/90 seems great but I want whats best.. thanks for the help!

I run the Schaffer's 80/90 synthetic and I have 115k. My last change at was 100k and the gears look great. I do occasional heavy towing. I see you are using amsoil. Forget the TSB-- the amsoil 110-- or even the 75/90-- is just fine. I wouldn't worry about 140 unless you haul heavy regularly in high temp areas.

Thanks! I tow heavy in a hot climate, but only on the weekends and not for hours and hours at a time. I also have the PML cover so cooling is better. Thanks for the help!!

I also use 75w90. That is what Dodge recommends. I have never found the TSB to use 75w140 weight at all. They never have recommended it from what I kind find.

The next time I tow, I will check the diff with the old fashion method of putting my hand on the cover. Mine is stock. If it seems too hot, I will upgrade to a PML cover and perform the same check.

Sorry to confuse you all... LOL It was not a TSB, my mistake.. it was a "Service Memo" and it basically applies to the 06 models.. Thanks again and sorry for the confusion.

After a short while I started getting a chatter in the rear end when starting out under load and more if the front wheels were turned a bit. I think it was trying to lockup. So I switched to Mobil 1 85-140 and it cleared up completely. I can't tell if it is less agressive about locking or not, seems the same but without the chatter. That is probably why Dodge now recommends the 140.
I don't know what any of this has to do with what semi trucks use? And I am curious why you said 140 didn't work well for you? Why?

The Dodge fluid also has a seperate LS additive that you can add for chatter. Nobody knows why it works and your not supposed to need it, but you can buy a MOPAR LS additive for chatter....
When I put the 140 in my truck I started getting a slight vibration between 40-45 MPH. Just happened to remember it started when I made the switch. I had the 75/90 and 110 AMSOIL in it before with no issues. As soon as I switched back to the 75/90, absolutely smooth....
A good friend of mine who knows these new trucks commented to me that the rear needs 10,000 miles to REALLY break in and recommended the 140 after 10,000. Said things are still tight and thats why I got the issue..
Another poster on the TDR board made a comment to me that he knows a FLEET of Semi trucks that run on the 75/90 and do fine on it... So if they can, my truck is a piece of cake!

The AAM axles do not want the additive. That was for the Spicer axles.

I understand that, but they were haivng quite a few problems with chatter in these AAM axles who supposedly did not need it. Take a look at the Carson Dodge website. They started fixing a LOT of chatter with the LS additive so now Dodge makes a MOPAR FACTORY LS additive to address this... I guess the new MOPAR stuff ( THat smells like a sewer) has it ALREADY in it...

Nope, I am not in that area, but I know John Holmes over there pretty well and he is the one that actually gave me all the info on this good stuff! LOL
