35 gal. fuel tank
I have a question does any one know how many gallons are left in the fuel tank after the low on fuel light comes on I am supposed to have a 35 gallon tank but I am beginning to wander because I filled up this morning the light was on and it only took 30 gallons this leads me to beleave that I have a 32 gallon tank.

If you read the owner's maunal, it will tell all!
The light comes on when there is 1/7 or 1/8 (approx 12% I think...can't remeber) of a tank left. Aproximately 5 gallons left. The tank is either a 35 gallon or 34 gallon nominal depending whether it is a long or short bed. Some people that tend to push the envelope around here have put up to 40 gallons in them if they sit at the pump another 10 minutes to let the foam settle...

Man, yesterday I filled up and put in 26.88 gallons. This is with out the light coming on. I always fill to the neck, maybe makes a difference.
On another note, my milage went up to 16.8 (16.2 previously) on that tank. Combined highway and town driving.

I filled mine up with the guage showing between 1/8 and 1/4 and it held 30.5 gallons. I have never let mine get low enough to let the light come on since I usually fill up around 1/4 to 1/2 a tank.
As a teenager I drove a 1948 Plymouth with a broken gas guage and it was not uncommon to run out of gas. Now I like to make sure I have plenty of fuel so I start looking for the pumps around a half tank.

I put 39 in mine one day after looking for a station for a long time out in the country. I just knew it was going to stop any minute. When I got to the station the needle had been on the peg for a long time.
I also ran my 1st gen out one night. Ran it till it stopped. All I had was lube oil so I poured in about six or eight quarts, bled the system and drove the rest of the way to town. I could not detect any difference in the way it ran. I did a similar thing with my Isuzu NPR diesel. In the middle of the night and no one was open except a mini market so I stocked up on cheap motor oil, poured it in and went on. No problem. And no, even though it sounds like it, I don't make a habit of running out of fuel late at night

Last week I drove waaaay past when the light came on. After my DTE gauge got to the dreaded zero mile left, I think I went about 65 more. I filled up my 34 gallon tank to the top and clocked in at a hair under 41 gallons.
