I'm just curious what kind of milage everyone gets on a full tank before the "low fuel" light comes on or before you have to refill.

When my truck was stock I got right at about 450 miles before the light came on. With the mods, soft foot in town, and cruise on the highway I've gotten right at 550 miles before the light comes on. Then of course I drive it another couple days before I refill.

I think I can get around 600miles before the light goes on. I just got back from the mountains, and filled up before we started the climb and filled up again after we got down from the mountains, and i still managed to get 21.1mpg even after climbing 6000ft!!!! I was impressed and so was my friend who followed us in his V6 minivan that got 23mpg gotta love diesel

That would only be a 21 gallon tank and just over 400 miles. I thought they all came with 30 gallon, but its still 20+mpg.

You guys can afford to fill a tank up?? I try to not let it get below 1/2 tank. Costs too much to fill 20+ gallons for me. Plus not the best thing to make it suck from the bottom of the tank.

I would try to avoid letting my tank get that low. I try to fill up before 1/4 tank. The fuel pumps rely on the fuel to keep cool, and when you are running down to a few gallons, the fuel heats up quite a bit. You also begin to get condensation in the tank when it is that empty. You also start to pickup the junk in the bottom of the tank.

I try to run no less than 1/4 tank on the gauge and that gets me around 320 miles or so. Anywhere between 17 to 20 mpg.

I thought they always suck from the bottom unless you have a floating pickup. Anyway that's what my car does. Are diesel's different?

Edwin, you are probly right. But I forgot to mention the condensation build up like greasemonky said. It could just be me or in my head, but my fuel pressure seems slightly higher with a full(er) tank than near empty.

You are correct that you'd get more fuel presure with a fuller tank because this means you will have a higher inlet pressure at the lift pump due to gravity on the fuel, and since your pressure differential across the pump will stay the same, you end up with a higher discharge pressure.

I myself usually run the tank close to empty but i don't have a 14mm pump head to make sure stays VERY cool.
