35 gal Fuel tank

I have the 06 long bed, with a 35 gal. tank. Today I fueled up to the neck with no foam left and managed to squeese in 37.8 gal. in. Dose the filler neck hold over 2 gal or is this station ripping folks off? I wasn't even bone dry, the low fuel message was on but it was still runing. I just find it hard to believe the filler is that big.

No, I don't think they are ripping you off. If you look at the fuel tank, they did notput the end of filler hose as high as they could. I could always get about 5 gallons or so if I topped off. Now have vent- hose relocation kit on and can fill it to brim without taking forever.

Traded in my 04 F350 PowerPuke 4x4 CC, LWB, XLT Hand Shaker (EGR Once, EGR Harn., EBP Sensor Twice [now there is a recall] , Radiator Puke, ECM Wire Harn., Shifting knotchy for:

2005 Dodge 3500 DRW 4x2 SLT, QC, LWB, Cummins, Six Speed (G56), Exhaust Brake, LongHorn Edition, Patriot Blue with Dark Grey Premium Bench Seats and Single CD Player.

My only real issue is topping off the tank is near impossible without a fuel can. I can add 6 gallons after pump clicks off.

Search around here for the Fuel Tank vent kit.
I don't have the link handy, but it moves the vent up higher, and you can fill the rest of your tank quickly.

Thanks. I wondered why it takes so long to top off compared to the 95 I had, I takes me longer to top off than the actual filling of the first 30 some gal. It is annoying. My vent (fwd) has a hose on it, but from reading other posts I guess there is more to it. I will have to did into it. Thanks

Is there more foam with the ULSD? If so, that could be a reason, too.

Does topping off to fill the neck only work on the longbed (35g) or does it work on the shortbed (34g) also?

I thought a long bed was 36 gallon & short bed were 34. Whatever. I've got an '04 shortbed. I've got Dave Kelley's vent kit on mine. Once, I managed to put 37.2 gallons into my 34 gallon tank. I went 825 miles on that tank alone!

If you want more info on the vent kits, go here

I put 39 in mine one day and others have chimed in with similar amounts. Someone said they got 40 in theirs. I don't have the vent mod. Mine will run for a very long time with the gauge pegged on empty.

Actually, the tank I went 825 miles on, I went 100 miles with DTE showing "0" and 50 miles with low fuel light on. Or was it vice versa? But, whichever, you are right, it goes a long way after it's supposedly out.

I have a shortbed with a 34gal tank. With the fuel vent mod and putting in fuel all the way up to the filler neck, I can put in 39 gal (driving around with the fuel lite on before filling up)

The fuel light comes on WAY before we are low. Wait till the needle is laying hard on the peg, then casually begin to price shop. I think mine had been on the peg for about 30 miles when I added 39 Gallons. It was a little unnerving.

Okay, today when I filled up I had 44 miles on the O/H left and I was able to put in 34.77gal, I was getting 14.5 on this tank (My O/H is accurate, tried hand calculations previously), so that means I had 3.03gal in the tank when I filled up giving us at minimum 37.80 gallon capacity.

The foam is a PITA...Took longer to top off than to fill it including running 2 transactions, $50.00 limit for Visa. Total $98.73, I really wanted an even $100.00, but the fuel was up to the vent line hole.

Sometimes it PAYS to check. At my local fueling station I filled up a 5 gallon can for my quad, it has a line at 5 gals. The pump said 6.2 gallons. I went in and said; what's up with this?
They gave me 3 bucks back. Just like checking your grocery bill; they do make mistakes and all stations are not properly calibrated. I have never put more than 30 gal. in mine, but I try to not let it go almost empty.

I'm normally the same way, fill up at 1/4 tank, but I had to try it and see for myself.
