I got a new shipping date of 3/10/04.
Alleyooper, is that from Mexico, or from where the depot/port is in your area. Because, if from Mexico, you have a bit longer to go - like a month, at least. I know that (supposedly) my truck is due into Baltimore on Tuesday 3/9, and due to the dealer (only 100 miles away) a week later. But, that date has already changed once, so, we'll see.

Question about ordering

I have a question about making a special order as opposed to picking a truck off the lot. Be patient with me on this explanation.

I placed an order on 12.31.03 and the truck was built and shipped to storage on 01.20.04. It was released on 02.09.04 and is estimated to be delivered to the dealer on 03.17.04 I may be able to pick up the truck two months after it was built.

Another truck very similar, but not sold before built and going to the same dealer. It was built and out the door on 02.11.04 and is scheduled to be delivered to the dealer on 03.08.04.

In other words, the unsold truck was built three weeks later than the truck I ordered BUT will arrive at the dealers a week earlier.

Here are the questions: Is a dealer more anxious to get a truck to sell on the lot than he is a truck ordered and already sold? Is it possible that a dealer might ask for priority in shipping for certain trucks?

I think that is entirely possible. My truck is due into Port of Baltimore on Wed 3/9. When I ordered on 1/17, $2000 +0% was in place. It is my understanding that we will still get at least the rebate that was in place at the time, or current, whichever is better. Not sure about the financing, though, there has been much debate on this and other sites about wheter "Sold Order Protection" applies to financing offers.

Therefore, I'm going in NOT expecting to be able to get 0%/48. By the time my truck comes in, I will have put less than 1500 miles on my current ride since ordering, so I'm not worried about getting less on my trade. I do expect to put some more money down, though, as now I'll be taking less of a loan, as there will now be an interest rate attached to it.

Ironically, my truck is equipped much a like a dealer's "stock" truck. Back in January, before there were any on dealers' lots around here, I should have just waited, and bought one off the lot in February. I would have had the rebate, plus financing, AND already be RID of the current troublesome ride in my sig.

Since the dealer already has your deposit, thereby making this a SOLD order, your priority diminishes. They want, and need, to stock their lots. Your order....well, it comes when it comes. Remember, this is just my opinion, maybe Tomeygun can chime in here.

Hopefully, within two weeks, I'll be a Mopar truck man again.

Wexman, I called my salesman yesterday and asked about the 0% financing and he indicated that I WILL still get it, and that I can finance almost all of the selling price if I want to. I don't know if the dealership has the discretion whether or not to honor order-time financing incentives, but my guy says I get it--I hope he's right.

If the truck was ordered within the incentive period you should get the rebates and 0% percent financing if that was the combo agreed on when ordered. Getting it after the incentive period ended should have nothing to do with it. I agree with dcorneli.

I hope you're right. My take on the situation is that a dealer can "honor" any rebate they want - just by taking out of their own pocket, just like any other pricing deal.

However, they have no control over Chrysler Financial's interest rates, policies and procedures, etc. I have been in the mortgage industry for many years, and I know rates and "special offers" can and do expire.

As I said, I HOPE you are right. It will be a pleasant surprise. I'll certainly post here and let you guys know, one way or 'tother.

Your truck was put on hold the same time as my truck. I order 12/19 and I am still waiting for my truck. Our truck's amd many other were put on quality hold for an exhaust clamp issue. DC had to order part and dispatch folks to "fix" this issue. This took about a month. On 2/16 all truck were release from this quality hold. So it is very possible that a truck relased from the plant on 2/11 would be delivered before your truck.
It is my understanding that sold trucks take priority to dealer stock.
If our trucks had not been caught in this quality hold, we would have been driving them in mid Feb.
It amazes me that they would hold so many trucks for such a minor issue, one that the dealer could fix. I guess it was cheaper to hold the truck then pay the dealers. Also the risk of an exhaust leak, if a truck was missed played a part in this.
Although I wish I had my truck a month ago, I can not get upset or fault DC for ensuring they put out a quality vehicle.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it seems if you live in the NE US, you'll be lucky to see your truck in 8 weeks from your order date. I went to a local dealer today to see what they had for CTD's. A month ago, I went there looking for 600's and there were only 3 or 4 CTD's, all SO's, since HO's weren't sold here.

Today, there were none. No SO's or 600's. Only 4 or 5 HD's and the rest of the rams, about 15, were 1500's. I've been to a few dealers over the past month and haven't seen a 600 at any of them.

Is someone torpedoing the boats on their way to the east coast?

Nobody is torpedoing the Boats. I live in RI, Ordered 12/10/03, still waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After doing some reasearch on the delay, I discovered that the boats are powered by the mighty "powerstroke 6.0l" Hence the delay

I think a lot of the delay or the hold issue was the problem with the 2g miss and the hesitation also. I think they probably wanted to do the reflash on the early 600's so the dealer wouldn't have to and to make sure it was done right.

My 03 took over 2 months to get also because there was somekind of a short in the dash circuit board. My dealer said over 2000 trucks were held up for a month because of it.

JMO but I think since Daimler took over, quality control has gotten alot better. They don't just ship them to the dealer if there is a problem (like in the past) and let them worry about it, they fix them then ship them.........

I ordered my truck on 12-23 shipped 02-26-04 delivery date maybe 03-17-04

All probably good ideas, but will the real idea please stand up! If there is a hold because of a problem which needs to be fixed, why don't they tell us? I would like to have had a place where with some authority I could be told the facts. The dealer often has known less than I did because the good folks on this fourm had shared their knowledge.

I think I am going to like my truck, but DC could sharpen up their PR. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts.

Well, I checked Insight again this morning. My truck is still showing as estimated arrival into Baltimore as 3/9, but now, dealer delivery ETA has been pushed back ANOTHER week to 3/22.

Hurry up and wait some more. March 22 will be exactly nine weeks after the order was placed. Dawall ordered his truck two weeks after me, we went D1 on the same date, and he picked up his truck this past Saturday. Some guys DO have all the luck.

Odie, I would call your dealer. You are now into Month 3. Perhaps he has something on the lot or inbound which is similar, or the same, as what you ordered. That's what I would do in your situation. He could sell you that truck, and then put yours on the lot whenever it comes in (June ).

Just funnin' with ya!

Week 14!!! That borders on the ridiculous. If you call DC and demand to speak to someone who manages the customer relations part of the business they should be able to find out for you the real story or did you already try that? 14 weeks is absurd, flat out ridiulous!! DC monitors these forums also. YTou would think that someone would help you find out where you truck really is.
