17'' wheel vs 16.5?

has anyone put different size wheels on their truck? does anyone know if 16.5'' wheels fit 04.5's? just wanted to know if they will clear the brakes.

welcome,

to answer your question in one word..... nope.

at least that was what i was told. i had a little bit smaller tires that would have fit on a 16.5" rim and they said NO. will not clear the brakes.

t-7 is right. 17" wheels barely fit on. 16.5's wont come close to fitting

there is no advantage to a 16.5 wheel, tires for them are quickly becoming obsolete.

The prices on 17" tires are starting to get a little lower since everybody's going to 18-24" wheels. I wish we still had 16" wheels b/c I can't find any aftermarket 17" dually wheels. Guess I'll just get some 22.5" Alcoas.

Yep, that's them. If I find the wheels cheap enough, I'm gonna go that route.

16.5 steel wheels may fit. Worth a try...but the tires are becoming obsolute.

The thickness of the "hoop" material is much thinner on a steel wheel. Backspacing is critical too. If I have a day to mess around in a wheel shop with unlimited stock...it would be fun to see what would work best!

I thought that I saw people on here that are using 16x10 wheels. If they are I assume they fit.....or don't they? I was thinking about new rims because in the long run tires are cheaper and you have more choice then using the 17" stockers.

No 16x10 will fit on a 3rd gen with out grinding calipers and or other parts. Maybe a 16.5 x 9 or 8 might.

Slowley there are becoming more options tire and wheel wise. I would not sweat it and wait a little.

well thanks all for your input and the welcome.
patrolman808--- just to let you know, I found a set of those rims and tires on e-bay yesterday. I think the guy sais he spent 5500. on them and would like to get 2000. go to wheels and tires and then put 8-lug in the search bar.
