2 wheel to 4 wheel drive conversion?

I have found an IMMACULATE 1993 extended cab 250 for sale. The truck is completely straight, the paint is beautiful, the interior is pristine, and generally everything about the truck is perfect, and, it only has 130K on the clock.

The only thing "wrong" with it is, I am looking for a 4 wheel drive.

Has anyone here CONVERTED a 2 wheel drive Dodge to 4 wheel drive? Is it viable? Are the transfer case/axle/hubs interchangeable, or, is it just too much work?

The reason I am willing to consider the conversion is the previously mentioned condition of the truck, coupled with the ridiculous asking price ($4000).

Thank you ahead of time!

- Ted

Re:2 wheel to 4 wheel drive conversion?

I don't know about a 1st generation truck but I know it's a royal pain in the *** to convert a 2nd gen truck into a 4x4 because half of the brackets needed for the front axle aren't there. I would asume it's the same on both trucks. Plus for the money it'd cost to build a 4x4 out of it you could have gone and bought one that was already a 4x4 and ready to rock out with it's clock out.

Heck, if the truck is as good as you say, I'd think hard about learning to like 2wd. One less gear box and axle to fool with anyway.

Rob

Well, I have decided against buying the truck, even though it's very handsome.

I intend to do a lot of driving in Alaska and Mexico, and I am thinking that having 4 wheel drive is the way to go.

*sigh*

Good choice. You can never beat a 4x4. Just wait until you find one.
