06 reg radio to navi question help?

ok i have an 06 quad cab with the standard single disc with ax jack...what does it take for me to upgrade to the navi unit? what all do i need? i see different models on e bay but not sure which one not to mention do i have all the nessisary wiring already on my truck?

i did a search on here and not really comming up with exactly what i was looking for....

i just hate to get a unit off e bay and it not be the right one..

i didnt know if it was just plug and play or if it requires one.. i like the factory look more so than aftermarket...thanks in advance....

Your best bet is to ask the company selling them. I too have looked at the rb4 and rb1's on eBay. They are a little more than plug and play. you have to run the gps attena/ But still seems very easy

Your 06 requires the REC Nav unit which is bigger than the factory stereo. You will of course need the antenna and the REC should hook right up to the stock wiring in the back. You will need a new dash bezel which you can get from your local dealer for about $85.00 or so. I have a website I know of that sells the bezels. PM me if you want it.
I just bought an REC unit and it just arrived yesterday. I got it from a member of another site for cheap!! If you get one on E-Bay try Mr-CD1. He has a great rep for selling new take off and recon Nav units...
03 to 05 trucks use the RB1 or RB4 units with the RB1 being the more sought after because the display is larger...

I have the RB-4 in my '05. It came from the factory that way. The navigation system is alright, but not dynamite. It does give you turn by turn directions, and also has a woman's voice that tells you where to turn over the stereo system also. My biggest complaint with the RB-4 is that it does not display maps. I prefer a GPS with the map display.

MR cd's ebay ad says the REC units have a connector that will fit, just won't work (CANBUS connector)
he says he includes the GPS antenna in his kits.

The original CAN specification from Robert Bosch is available for free:
www.can.bosch.com/docu/can2spec.pdf
http://www.canbus.us/

and it looks like there is an "upgraded" unit with a better joystick.

for $899 though, can't you go aftermarket cheaper?

it's crap to get the OEM Navi system, then not have steering wheel controls.

i think i will go aftermarket, and get a remote control.
a remote control seems stupid in a car, until you get used to it, and don't have to take your eyes off the road as much.

You can get aftermarket for cheaper but I don't want one more thing cluttering up my dash. I just got my unit pretty cheap so I am happy it will just be a part of the factory dash. It will be a couple weekends from now before I get it put in though....

Dodgezilla,
I have been considering replacing the standard CD/radio with the REC unit as well and have already purchased the bezel but not the REC unit itself. Please let me know when you go to do the swap as I'd like to check out the install process. I'm in Fairfax and can bring your choice of beverage. Send me a PM.
Thanks!

I'll let you know when I'm doing it if I remember. Either that or I will take pictures. From what I have read it is stupid simple so it's right up my alley..

FYI, I emailed MrCD1 about the price differences in his REC units. The cheaper ones are older units and have the old software. The unit is fine but you will need the newest version of the CD to be up to date. I got mine from a member of another site and was very happy to find that it was never installed and it has the newest version of the CD plus it was cheap!!!!
