06 mega cab
06 mega cab
I am looking at an 06 mega cab. I have a 12 valve now so I know I will take a kick on mileage. Are there any other pit falls I should know about going into this. Just big stuff no regular Dodge build stuff. It has 60,000 Kilometers on it.
I have 90,000 KM on mine, fuel consumption is a little higher then my 01 QC, but it has not been in the shop for anything, in 3 years! Mine is stock, but the power is fantastic! A very large, 8000 pound pick up, which the tires break loose at a stop light, makes the pin heads take notice. The room in the cab was the reason I bought mine; the 5.9 is why I will keep it!
i average around 13-14 in the winter and around 15-18 in the summer. the BFG's dont help the mileage at all. so far i have been pretty happy with the truck. kids love the room, they can be seperated so they dont fight as much.
I love mine too!! Mine was in the shop for a couple warranty items, but NO PROBLEMS otherwise. Best truck I've ever owned. I get good mileage, been right at 19-20mpg's on the open road at 65mph once it was broke in. I get around 15-16mpg towing my close to 9K BP travel trailer. Worst mileage I've had to date was 12-13 towing 18K in a headwind.

If you are looking at an auto, the tranny could probably stand a few upgrades. The steering on mine is not as tight as I would like. I'm considering upgrading the steering linkage and adding a steering box stabilizer. Other than the normal Dodge creeks, rattles and groans it is a very nice truck that my family likes.

If you are going to be towing real heavy or adding performance mods, TC is weak and most on here are suggesting either upgrading the valve body are putting in a shift kit to get the pressures up in the tranny.
Definitely a great truck! I have 65k on mine, only problem I have had is the HVAC blend door hinge breaking. Here are some of the weak points:
HVAC blend door - common issue on 2006 Mega.
48RE tranny - weak torque converter. As stated, if pulling over 8k on a regular basis, recommend upgrading.
front-end ball joints - will probably be okay, unless you start modifying the suspension, i.e., lift kit, big tires. Leave stock, should have no issues.
Lift pump - okay for stock fueling. Add a programmer, after-market injectors, you will need to get after-marget fuep pump, i.e., GDP Fuel Boss, GDP 392, Fass, ect.

Mines been good. Long term mileage is averaging 15, which was not fun when the fuel prices hit $4.69 a gallon, but now at $2.00 is should be better. A/C is weak... There are alot of write-up on the A/C for this truck, probably one of the things I dislike most aout the truck. The 06 G-56s could have been geared better, you get high RPMs at highway speeds. Dodge Nav system is a waste, honestly, who designed this thing? Interior space in the truck is awesome, strong motor in the 5.9s.
please excuse ignorance
what is an hvac door frame and when I bought the 95 12 valve I had a BD tourque converter and valve body along with the kdp and fuel plate and pyro and tranny gauges done So am I looking at the same stuff here.
