06 3500 4x4 with 21k Most $$$ brake job to date...

Guy must have seen elvis trying to come down the pass to the west of us. Didn't see the trailer, but the truck told the story... Got towed in with no/poor brakes (thought is was warranty ) It still had linings, but I'm wondering how hot a brake pad has to get to make it melt. The backing steel of the front pads were warped, rear rotors blue/purple and cracked. All the rubber parts of the calipers (dust boots) had turned to charred dust. Ended up replacing all rotors, all pads, all calipers, all four brake hoses. Being it's an 06 there were no aftermarket parts available so it was all brand new factory stuff. He also said the check eng light was on, although it was off when I drove it in. Did a quick check and it had set an engine overspeed code. Checked the freeze frame.......0% TPS, 65mph, 4550 rpm. Being it was a manual it wouldn't say what gear he was in, but I bet there was a lot of "OH JESUS!!" going on. Maybe it's none of my business, but I really thing situations like this should be reported by the towing companys or even techs. There's a stoplight at the bottom and it could have had a lot more tragic ending than just a bunch of damaged parts.

4550 RPM isn't that pretty extreme for 65mph and 0-TPS

extreme period

Crikey! 4550 RPM and all that brake damage! He must have been hauling you know what down the road and needed to stop in a hurry. I bet his underwear was wrecked too!
