Re:01 VERSES 03

You're like me. I had a decked out '01 HO 6-speed with many of the same mods (box, turbo, injectors), clutch, Overdrive, Exhaust Brake, etc. I traded to an '03 because I was tired of shifting.

The only thing I miss is the power, but in time that will be taken care of. I refuse to over-power the new one like I did the old one. I'm only looking to pick up maybe 75 hp this time. I think TST's new PowerMaxCR will be just the ticket to keep mods to a minimum. The 48RE is a heck of a nice transmission and is said to be the equivelent of a DTT-modified 46/47RE and good for about 400 hp.

So it comes down to this... is it worth it to you to de-mod your current truck and sell off the parts you don't want, and then have to setup your next truck? It took me four long days to de-mod mine.

And I love my new truck.

Rob

Re:01 VERSES 03

the nice thing about the 3rd gen is that I have kids and it will be easier to get them in and out, it comes standard with 4 in exhaust, and nicer on the inside. The major draw back for me is Im not going to be the fastes diesel around anymore. My buddie wants to buy my truck as is. I hate the idea of getting rid of my $3500 suncost tranny, my hx40 and injectors. will any of these work on the 03 or 04?

Re:01 VERSES 03

You can keep the HX-40 but it'll require some work to make it fit. I asked the guys at Diesel Dynamics about it but I forget what they said.

Probably better to sell your truck intact and just do mild mods to the new one until all the cool new stuff comes out, then decide which way to go. It looks like the new truck will be able to make the same power or more than the ISB.

Re:01 VERSES 03

agreed. at this point if EGR is a showstopper I would look for an 04 on the lot. you can order now, and probably be safe, but the risk is increasing every day we get closer to January.

Re:01 VERSES 03

well that would be consistent with the story of (I forgot who), where they place the order just recently and DC said won't be built until October. That means the order backlog is really gettting big. soon, new orders won't be filled until December and then we're REALLY barking up the EGR tree!

I expect that DC planned their production capacity through December pretty well, and that they are manipulating the order fulfilment by adjusting backlog. In otherwords, I'm thinking that they can build x non-EGR trucks and they will take x weeks to build that many. They probably won't accelerate production -- they'll grow the backlog instead. That will give them plenty to do over Christmas...

Re:01 VERSES 03

My last truck was an 01, bombed, although not as heavily as you. I traded it in for an 03, and love the new truck.

The 02 and unders, while fantastic trucks, don't have the bottom end power (VP44 just doesn't have the legs) nor the ride/handling of the 03 and ups.
