hitch limits verses ratings.... 5th wheel

Hi all; theres the rating of a hitch[we are taiking 5th wheel here] and the safey limits/ comfort zone. My new trailer gross out at 14500 ,I traded my smaller truck for the one signed below and let the 15k reese go with ...because.. I didn't think 500 lbs was a safe cushion... I plan on getting a 20k double pivot.however have just come acrossed a 16k reese dbl pivot used @ a great price is 1500 lbs enough margin also the pin wiegh factor about 2800 to 3000 lbs . So what do you think......... ps we prefer reese for the same reason we prefer cummins.... years of dependable products

Hey Fishin Fever:

Unless you plan on a larger fiver down the road, I would be comfortable with the 16K hitch. Hitches, from reputable companies anyway, are safe up to the rated weights. Like you, I would hesitate at a 500 lb. cushion, but with the 16K you should be good to go. By the way, you'll love the pivot feature.

If your weights are correct, the 16K will be fine. As you can tell from my sig, I went overboard on my safety margin but I liked the design.

Your good at 16k.......most hitches are under rated as a built in safety margin my hitch is 18k rated and I have exceeded that weight many times (I don't endorse anyone do this tho)
