EGR CODE po 402/Boost Fooler
EGR CODE po 402/Boost Fooler
Well everyone just got the truck out of the Dealer had my 1st EGR valve replacement and updated ECM download. So it wasn't anything to do with the Boost Flooler or ther Banks Ram Air filter set up I had just installed a week ago, Service advisor said everyones in there with that code, mainly the software holding the EGR open to long causing soot to build up. Time will tell at this rate in 5300 miles i'll have 4 or 5 before the warranty up.
Boost fooler/ Banks air filter
Yes I ended up taking everyhting off since this was the 1st tripto a new dealer, where I bought the truck they were just closed down . Advisor asked if I had done anything and told him I had installed the filter and he himself agreed that wouldn't have caused the light on and next time I could just leave it on. as far as the boost fooler his father owns a truck and refered me to the site to purchase one. Seems they were at least ok with the fact Dodge is working on the EGR problem, he did a couple down loads. 2 days later with noting reinstalled the engine light back on with the same code, So new EGR valve, down loads and still have the same problem. Going on vacation so I'll install everything and put a small strip of electrical tape over the damm light so it doesn't bug me
mbmike, qzilla posted this in another thread and it may apply to you:
I covered this on another forum but, this is a good place for this as well.
I have seen the fooler cause an 0402 code. The problem is it is not really the fooler that causes it, just sort of a right place right time sort of thing.
Basically when your truck goes into regen mode it commands the EGR to 0% duty cycle. This is both for a deSoot or a DeSoX regen. If you have the fooler on and either of the regen cycles try to activate and then you run the boost up it can cause the EGR to open slightly and causes an EGR error.
Usually the CEL appears after you make a run and you slow down and stop where the regen cycle turns off. If this is a deSox this happens immediately when you stop, if it is a DeSoot it can take a little longer to actually turn the cycle off.
This code will clear itself after a few key starts and miles, provided the regen process was able to complete and it does not go through the spin cycle as stated above.
The big problem is that most people do not know when their truck is attempting a regen. That is why we pushed so hard on the Scout to make the regen and DPF reporting so much different than what is currently available. If you know when it is attempting to regen you will never have this issue. Most never have it anyhow but, this is how it happens.
Also, on a side note, we have seen over 3mpg per tank improvement by using the Scout and watching for when regen attempts occur. When it attempts to regen we make certain we allow the entire process to complete.
Otherwise your truck will attempt to regen every couple of key starts and possibly every key start. If you kill it during the middle it completely restarts the next time. In one tank of fuel this can attribute to over 3mpg simply because evertytime you drive somewhere your truck is trying to regen.
Also, through testing we have found that if you allow the filter to remain clean it will only attempt a regen every 2.5 to 3hrs of drivetime if you start with a clean filter instead of every few or every key start.

Dodge's Regeneration process is ridiculous and hideous. They really need to do something about it. It is very complicated and does not always work that well.
I spent 30 minutes this morning letting a truck regen and it would not even complete the regen cycle? For some reason after 30 minutes it wil stop and then go into regen at a later time which is really frustrating.
I was on a road trip that was 180 miles each way and it never attempted to regen, I get to work to test some stuff this morning and it tries to regen in traffic. go figure.
