Deleting the 6.7: A guide to making it run right!
Guys,
I just put about half a tank through on SW3 and got 23.5 mpg hand calculated. That is up from the 21.5 I had on SW1. I stayed out of the pedal as best as I could and coasted to most of the stops. It was mostly highway, but in commuter traffic.
I can't believe I'm getting almost 24 mpg with this big truck. LOL.
I just hope I don't end up with a tranny issue or blown head gasket as a result. The power is so tempting. I can't believe it will chirp 3rd gear. Already has the rear swing once on me unexpectedly when I powered past potential accident waiting to happen in slow traffic. Yeehaw!

I guess the best way to describe deleting is it lets you realize that not only do you have a Cummins under the hood, but its a big Cummins.
Its simple math really.
6.7 > 5.9

Its normal for it to whistle like the EB is on, espcially when cold. The ECM will engage the EB without it actually being on to help with warm up.
want to make sure i delete my smarty jrme right do i return everything to stock my check engine light is still on and to reinstall is #1 setting the right one for for 30hp and everything else on default for minimal safe mode for my 2007.5 6.7 i dont seem to understand all the options thanks ken
You don't need to return to stock. Just reinstall whatever software and levels into the truck with Smarty from where you're at. I've done this once or twice to clear up some of these gremlins and had good success.
For extra insurance I re-updated the Smarty as well before going from Smarty to the truck.
Double check you disconnects under the truck and hood.

Gentlemen, as soon as a Smarty is avail for my 2011 I am doing EGR/Cooler, DPF, CAT deletes as well as a full exhaust and intake system. I netted a blistering 12.8mpg on my first tank and cannot deal with that on the daily. But, I will be placing step-by-step photos on the site as soon as figure out how.
If one were to use a dpf with a hole bored out and a straight pipe pushed through, the egr set up Ca. style and a smarty JR attached (when they come out for the 10's) what would happen if you were stopped for the roadside inspection when they connect a computer up to your truck? Would it show up anything unusual or would every show normal? The truck would pass the visual and Dpf would not have a "hollow" sound. The only give away would be the soot on the tail pipe.
Not sure what they've be checking and using to hook up to the trucks computer (other than a scanner to check codes like most), but this would seem pretty ideal to fool the visual inspection on the surface of just looking.
This is what I'd lean towards. Usually it's a visual inspection of the exhaust and sometimes a bang on the dpf for a hollow sound. They also inspect the tail pipe for soot. Also hook up some sort of code reader or maybe something a little more advanced, not sure. The worse case scenario is they fail you and you have to swap out the modified dpf with the old one you removed (buy a spare to bore the hole) and have the truck checked and certified by a licensed diesel mechanic. Still cheaper then all of the fines. Here in NJ my truck is now exempt from inspection but I may or may not be subject to roadside checkpoints.
Thanks for the great write up and advice, finally got ole thirsty "deleted" and went from 14 to 19 mpg, still waiting to go the full delete route instead of the california style but its coming.
Patiently waiting for the updates on what all you do to the new one you bought haha
