Working out the kinks-- TNT/R

Finally got everything back together and have been troubleshooting for a couple of days...

What I found was with the flux 2.4's and TNT/R, I can't run the timing settings (sw9, sw7, sw5) with the Smarty... too much timing that shows up as a loud popping/fluttering in the exhaust pipe at certain spots of WOT. At first I thought it was just draining the rail. But it is not... at least not to a great degree.

Any of the even numbered sw's (8,6,4) do not make the noise I described. As far as the rail goes, I see 22.5k max on sw 8 or 9; 23-23.5k on sw6 or 7 and 24k on sw 4 or 5. Just for fun I hooked up the puck with sw 8 and I saw a max RP of 17k on the 90 hp setting and 19k on the 60 hp setting...

So I am thinking... do I need more LP (currently at 32 psi at the pump) or more CP3? (I have Floor It stage 2) Will a modded rail help here?

Thoughts anyone??

One other comment I have to make... the HTT intercooler is just awesome. All the flogging I have done recently has made for some really high air temps from the turbos. Under similar circumstances with the stock intercooler, you could not touch (literally!!) the CAC anywhere without burning your hand. With the HTT unit, while the same temps were so hot on the inlet side of the CAC (again WAY too hot to touch the tank on the inlet), the outlet was very cool, and I would estimate (don't have the IR gun) about 70-75*. This is just surface metal temps by touch. But the difference stock to HTT is just unreal. You have to experience to believe. I was a doubter about aftermarket CAC effectiveness and benefits. I no longer doubt!!!

What are the HP of the 2.4? 100-120hp? I am suprised to hear that it has that much rattle. What are your EGT's on Level 8?

Flux 2.4= 120 hp

Depending on altitude (I live at 4000') egts can vary from 1300 at sea level and 55-60psi boost to 1500 at 4000' with 45-50 psi boost. Yes, elevation has that much effect.

As far as rattle, when I first installed the injectors they rattled so much at idle I thought I had a 24v. They have since calmed down.

I havent tried the even numbers or timing 3.
Im running timing # 2
Software #7 seems to run smooth & powerful.
#9 drains the rail and starts poping at 60 pounds of boost.
On #9 you can make the rail pressure drop with your right foot.
Im running #1 on pressure with DR Perf 2021 on tow.
70 MPH 19000 / 21000 rail pressure.

Between the timing of the REVO RACE / TWINS / HTT intercooler . EGTS pretty much hit a wall at 1000.

soulezoo,

You just perfectly described my truck's behavoir....Before dual CP3's.
The second CP3 fixed the problem.

I suspect you are low on Cp3's!

Try cranking the lift pump pressure and see if that helps the issue at all...I'm betting 70-80psi (test only) will fix the issue.

Good luck!

Higher.
My 1.8s did 385hp w/ no electronics. I would guess 2.4s are 150hp actual - no matter their advertised power.

You should have a very quiet engine with a 2.4 in an 03-04 engine. They are almost dead silent on the combustion noise.

Keep trying different programming combinations.

Yes...you have some other problem...there is no way you have too much timing with Fluxs and ANY Smarty tune.

I can run 3-6 degress over and all si good!

Well, there is nothing else on the truck right now, just the smarty and the stix.

FP pressure pulls down to 22psi WOT from 32psi at idle. RP is what I mentioned earlier.

If I run any of the odd # sw's I get the popping sound at WOT... even #'s I do not. The only difference in the two sw's is timing. The popping only happens briefly at a certain rpm and load, the engine will pull through it but it is a flat spot power wise when it happens.
