wierd issue with airdog fuel filter change
Now this has me stumped,i picked up replacement fuel filters for my Airdog 100 on the way home, cummins was closed so i stopped at a truck parts shop and picked up Baldwin BF7634 F/F and BF1275 W/S,so i pulled in my driveway shut off the truck clamped my fuel supply line and removed Fleetguard FS19768 water seperator filter, screwed on the new Baldwin then moved to the Fuel filter removing the fleetguard FF5613 but when i tried to spin on the Baldwin it bottomed out making contact with what looks like [2]black stops on the mating face of the Airdog,it looks like the Baldwin is slightly crowned and really doesn't compress the rubber seal, but i figured it was making a seal so i tried to fire it up and found my pump was dead not pumping fuel,***.. got the tester out and started at the pump no power!! pulled the connectors from the battery cleaned them and checked again NOTHING, okay find the inline fuse and sure enough the 20 amp fuse is blown, now i am really scratching my head as the pump worked fine until i shut it off after a hour on the highway, the only thing i can see is the black buttons/tabs on the mating face of the pump has a screw holding each in place,do you think i could have shorted out the pump?? i know my description of these tabs/buttons is very vague and i don't know why they have some spring action to them when compressed.. I ended up spinning the used Fleetguard back on for now and will toss out the new Baldwin and pick up another fleetguard, anyone elso have this issue with the Baldwin BF7634???

Loosen those mounting bolts up (all 4) and then tighten the filter. The water separator was hitting one of the tabs and never sealed. Probably why it popped the fuse. I had it happen to me when I went to a Donaldson Fuel filter. It gushed fuel everywhere.....LOL
will try that, although my issue wasn't with the fuel seperator it was the fuel filter,i am thinking those springy tab/button things are switches?? they left distinct scrape marks on the new filter where they were rubbing tried searching for a pic on the net but came empty

Remove those tabs....I had to remove mine when I went with a Cat filter....not sure of their purpose but everything works fine with them gone.
As far as blowing that fuse goes......button everything up and replace the inline fuse. If it blows after it runs for a few seconds then most likely the seals in the motor housing took a poop and shorted out the windings. It happened to me a couple years back. Other than that my AD150 has been flawless for about 7 years.

Did the pump run at all when. You went to bleed it out? Air Dog recommends pre filling ONLY the water seperator, filling the filter may put enough load on the pump to pop a fuse.
I also had to loosen the bracket and adjust the pump the first time I switched from the original AD filters to the Baldwin. There are no switches of any kind on the pump or base, so nothing to worry about there.

Well i don't want to mess with things that were working so i picked up the Fleetguard fuel filter that i have on the system now and replaced it,no problems. Not sure if popping the fuse was a giant fluke and had nothing to do with what i was doing.. i know it took a while for the pump to fill the water separator filter.but it is all good.the more i read on fuel filtration i wonder if i am being to **** about changing fuel filters every year@ 15,000 miles, i am sure the 18wheeler drivers go a lot longer on their rigs
I go about 20k on the fuel filter, give or take. I generally watch my fuel pressure and once it drops a pound or two consistently its probably time for a change. The water seperator really only needs changed every other fuel filter change unless you get a tank of contaminated fuel. It is more or less a catch all filter and will not plug up like the filter will.

Well i am completely stumped now!! I just replaced the fuel filter, straight exchange fleetguard to fleetguard spun off the old and on with the new one,put the key in and turned on the pump and NOTHING!!! Sure enough checked the fuse and it is popped, man i don't get it i have changed these out at least 4 times since installing the Airdog. i put in the new fuse and away it goes pumping like it should, i don't know what is causing the fuse to blow, any ideas will help me to figure this gremlin out would be greatly appreciated

If I knew how to post pics here I'd show you that you need to change your filters more than once a year. The pics I have will change your mind on that theory for sure.

well i did cut open the fleetguard fuel filter that came off,it had about 12,000 miles on it,it was very black with residue i thought for a moment i was cutting into a oil filter,i think i will be changing them when i change my oil twice a year, i figure it is cheap insurance to protect my injectors.
