Why -35's, Oh Why?

I've noticed that I've got to be careful entering or leaving a driveway at any speed with the wheels turned or the Pro-Comp ATS front tires will contact the rear of the fender lip, but Saturday was a real pain.

I picked up a bed-full of compost, about a ton or so, and brought it home. I then had to tiptoe the darn truck around the yard to keep the silly front tires out of the fenders. Five-point turns in low-range were not fun just to accommodate the tires.

Those tires stick almost a couple inches beyond the fenders and cover the sides of the truck with grime that will require $400 worth of fender flares to correct, but I can't install the flares because the front tires will tear them up. I can just tell that next winter will be real joy with those wide meats on that (relatively) light rear end. I wish the former owner had been even a little more judicious with his tire selection, 33s would clear, actually. Or, maybe he got the wheel offset wrong, who knows.

OK, rant off. The CTD was a joy hauling that ton of dirt around. I wanted to leave it in the truck, actually. It shifts better, rides better, and is overall more of a truck when its loaded and working. The engine even runs better today after the exercise it got this weekend. The light-throttle rattle is all but gone now.

I thought I read somewhere that Moto Metals werent the wisest of choices on our trucks because of the backspacing and offset?

Wrong size backspacing w/ your Moto Metal Wheels. I believe they are 4.5" of BS. You want 5.5"-6" of backspacing w/ 35" tires and bigger for no rubbing on fender well and control arms.

On the bright side I've got an excuse to spend a lot of time on the freeway wearing out these tires so I can get a set of 33s.

Yea i have moto metals and my 295's will touch just the back of the fender lining with no leveling kit. Think Im gonna go with just 285/75's and leveling kit just for that reason. Would love 35's but couldnt complain on the deal i got on the rims and tires used. Def a backspacing issue.

ditch the moto's with the 4.53" b/s, and keep the 35's. even with 33's, you'll still be slingin' gravel and mud all over your rocker panels with those wheels.

You should of done better research.

Do you still have your stock rims? If so put the 35's on thoes and sell the moto metal's and enjoy worry free driving.

Yep see if you can get someone on ebay or craigs list to trade you back for the stockers and keep the tires. You wont rub anymore.

35's fit on rims with stock backspacing without even putting a leveling kit on. But with different backspacing, they rub on the inside of the fender. I have the moto metals and they did that, but I just got a cut off wheel on an air ratchet, and trimmed the inside, and you cant even tell looking at the side of the truck, and now they don't rub at all

I run BFG's 315 70 17's on my 05, OEM wheels. The driver side lightly rubs the upper and lower control arms at full turn, the other side no rubbing. I put the two inch leveling kit on the front. They don't hit anywhere else. I think I should of went with the 305's though cause the truck sits a little higher than it should when I tow the fiver.

BFG's 315 70 17's are not truely a 35 they measure out more like a 285 75 17 height wise it is a common mistake unless you actually look at a specific tire since all manf are a little diffrent. But yea the motos def cause the rubbing issue and with minor trimming could be made to work. In my case they came as a package deal cheaper than what I could have bought just new tires so i just run a smaller tire and deal with it.

Ya I didn't find that out till after I left 4wheel parts with them installed, I really like the rims(mo955s) and my guy at 4wheel parts said that was the first set they had sold, so I liked being the only one on the road with them in my area, and they look really good on my truck so I just trimmed the inside and you cant even tell. I'm happy with them. And I like the look they give with the tires sticking out a little. (Don't like the paint chips though), but I guess you can't have it all huh..
