Wix filters are 2 microns nominal and who knows what absolute. Cat filters are 2um absolute...

Based on Wix's opinion that their OE filter for the HPCR doesn't meet specs but is "good enough" I will NEVER run a wix fuel filter in my truck. They don't match the specs of the filter they copy...

I have 23K on mine and still running within .5psi of new.

Correct, its not a f/w sep.

what's the best filter to run in the oem canister. i'm currently running a 2mic secondary after the oem canister. But i want to make sure that i have best possible f/w sep in the oem position.

The best OE filter is the Baldwin PF7977.

if you want the very best filter set up get two napa 4770 bases and series them install a fleetguard fs1000 in the first followed by a fs5320 in the second one. next mount them in front of the fuel tank and cut the line from the tank and connect the filters. next do not change the filters until you have a 3 psi drop and you should never have to change the stock filter.

The FS1000 is a great f/w sep, its 10um absolute and 95% on both free and emulsified water. But there are better options for the final fuel filter. The FF5320 is only 5um absolute, and 92% at 2um. The Cat 1R-0750 is 2um absolute. In all my research, and its extensive, I haven't found a fleetguard filter that is 2um absolute singlepass.

IMHO I want a little looser filter for my first filter, like the Baldwin BF1212 at 20um. The Fleetguard FS1212 isn't as efficient at f/w sep as the Baldwin. The reason is I have three filters and want a step between them all, so the 20um catches the big stuff, the 5um the next biggest, then all the 2um has to worry about is the fine stuff. This is also the reason I don't like the two filters together under the truck, albeit personal preference, I want the filtration sequential for maximum filter life. Lets face it the OE filter will have to be replaced, so might as well use it.

Here is more of the data I have collected, its by means not all, but most people will find it to be plenty. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/3r...lter-data.html
