What's safe EGT's

Put my Bully dog and outlook monitor on my 05, got it all working. Went and got a load of staw. It did do pretty good, but EGT's wanted to climb pretty fast. I know you hit high temp's but not for a long time. How high can i go and still be ok for long pierods of time, say mile or two, going up long hills. It still haas stock exhaust, does changing it help alot on these new dodge's??

I believe upper limits are 1350 sustained for SO/HO trucks, and 1450 sustained on the 325/600 and up. The newer trucks have better valve seats that can take more heat.

I asked Bully Dog the same question. I have the Tripple dog with a 5" turbo back and my Pyro moves as fast as my boost gauge. I had heard 1250 was safe and 1300 for a second was fine. My EGT's blew that away before I even had power so I called and after bouncing around a bit they told me 1350 was fine and 1400 peak. I sure hope JC's right on this one because it would really ease my mind, and give me more power!

Bullydog told me the smae thing. Its hard setting the defueling that low b/c you lose so much power when it starts, hurts big time going up hills. I am talking pre-turbo also/

Quick spikes above 1250 aren't going to hurt anything. Some people will run there trucks at 1600* going down the 1/4 mile and they're fine. But you can't sustain anything over 1250-1300* for very long. You can hold 1300* (I prefer 1250*) all day long and be just fine though.

Man I hope you guys are just being cautious with numers that low. Even with nothing in tow i can peg the pyro at 1500*. I obviosly try not to, wich means leaving it off of the high setting. Even on the stock setting I can sit at 1250+ when towing, and hit 1300 if I am hard on the go pedal. I typicaly leave it on the 50 hp setting and that will bounce it off of 1400 easaly and sit at 1300 if I stay on the fuel.

Most of you (and I would have to agree ) are going to think that I am not very bright, but I have been towing my 30' ft toy hauler for 15,000 miles, 4 trips through the hills of west virginia and virginia without any gauges and sustained speeds of 60-70 mph. I have quads standard box which I leave on 60hp setting all the time. While I don't mash the throttle, I certantly don't baby the truck either. No problems so far. Runs as good as the day I bought it. (If it were a Durajunk or Powerjoke, might be a different story ) This is one tough truck, but I think I have played with fate long enough and have pyro, boost, and trans gauge coming. Almost afraid to see what temps I might get.
