Safe EGT

Hey everybody, thanks for the help on the previous question i had, but now i have another one. I have my pyro probe before the turbo on the manifold and i was wondering what is the safe operating temperature for the 1st gen when the pyro is here. I have my pump tweaked a little, and when i lay into it, i can get the egt up to 1200, but normal driving is around 600-800 is this okay

I believe the magic number to stay below is 1350 when the probe is in the manifold and 1000 if its in the elbow.

Actually, Cummins specifies that you stay under a sustained EGT of 1250* at the manifold. Anywhere above that and you stress the cooling system and you can begin cracking exhaust parts such as the turbo's exhaust housing... as well as shrinking the exhaust manifold.

Yes please.... do NOT exceed 1200-1250*F.
You "should" get away with 1350*F for 1 minute out of 5; and at 1500*F.. well, it's anybody's guess...
You can "technically" run at the 1200-1250*F temps for "sustained" periods of time BUT.... if you do, keep a close eye on your coolant temps....
The block, all it's components, cooling system, intercooler etc begin to get "heat saturation" and you'll see water temps climb high(er)...
Just watch that other gauge if you want to run hard and hot...

Pastor bob..

ps: DTT now has a custom built race certified billet flex plate for us 1st Gen guys specifically... the higher the HP, the higher the mortality for the stock units...

I was told about the same, 1280 was the MAX at the manifold and 1125 after the turbo within 3 inches of the outlet. Its worked fine for me for the last 1,168,000 miles.

Look at my sig. - I run the same numbers on a daily basis (600-800) as you. I can see 1400 on a dyno if I bend the floor pan under the go pedal . You are running a truck without a charge air cooler so as you add more power watch your EGT's.
