I talked with a small dealership out in Idaho about a dealer lifted truck they had on the lot about warrenty. He said if I bought that truck everything including the lift was covered at their shop. Even with a BD They had no problem with mods. If only they were all like that.

4 words... Magnusson Moss Warranty Act
I didn't read thru all of the posts to see if anyone metioned it already and I see that this subject is getting a bit old but it irritates me when dealers do that. The act, in laymans terns, prohibits dealers from voiding your warranty just because you used an aftermarket part. A turbo timer falls into the same category (in this case) as an air or oil filter. They have to prove it caused a failure. Check out http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=60128

So I'm more interested in your original problem - codes when it gets cold. My truck occasionally throws a code when the high idle kicks on. Wonder if we are seeing the same issue?

Yes you are correct but the bottom line is DC has better more expensive lawyers and they have in most cases...more money. You'd be tied up in court for years with a truck that you can't fix/drive...it just plain sucks

TX is right on there.

Another issue is that you modified the vehicle electronics to keep it running with no key. That's not the same as just replacing an existing part with an aftermarket one, so I'm pretty sure the MMWA wouldn't apply.

Not saying I agree by any means, but that's how the MMWA works.

The Magnunson Moss act has good intentions but its poorly implemented. Besides, by the time you took the dealer to court, paid your lawyer, court fees, etc., assuming you win you still have spent enough money to already buy the part and have them install it. I've threatened a dealer before with that and they laughed. They knew I couldn't do anything to them and they don't care. Well dodge lost a customer over their cruddy service.

Exactly. The conversation usually goes something like this...

Cummins Hero: My A/C isn't blowing cold and I only have 7k miles on the truck.
Service Dept Villain: We took a look at your truck and it appears you have an aftermarket muffler installed. This part voids your warranty so it will cost $2800 to fix your A/C. Will that be cash or credit card?
Cummins Hero: But what does a muffler have to do with the A/C system???
Service Dept Villain: Nothing really, but it voided your warranty so the A/C is no longer covered...along with every other part on the truck.
Cummins Hero: You can't do that!!
Service Dept Villain: We just did.
Cummins Hero: The Magnuson-Moss warranty act specifically says you can't void my warranty for an unrelated aftermarket part!
Service Dept Villain: Hmmm...never heard of it, sorry.
Cummins Hero: I know my rights and I'm going to have my lawyer sue you if need be to get this repaired under warranty.
Service Dept Villain: Ok, sounds good sir. Is there anything else we can't help you with today?
Cummins Hero: Yeah, my next new vehicle purchase for starters.

Dodge isnt the only manufacturer that tries to enforce warranty issues with aftermarket parts. If you put a turbo timer on a D-max or a Flamer you might get the same thing. All dealership service departments are different. Be honest with them and they might work with you.
