What's the difference between the GT4220 and the S400 and the S400 with the 80 mm wheel. Spool, cooling, durability etc. Thanks, Jay

The GT4202 and 74mm S400 are suppose to flow the same on the compressor side. The difference is the exhaust side. The GT4202 is 82mm and the S400 is 96mm. So as you might be able to deduct the S400 will flow more and make more power. The S480 is just a S400 with a 80mm compressor wheel. Depending on which cover you choose it flows about 15 to 22% more air.

Hey Nathan, on those t-wheel sizes are you lookin at inducer or exducer sizes? both of those seem large for exducers. I was thinkin a 74mm 400 should have around a 74mm exducer unless custom made.

A standard S400 is a 96mm inducer and 88mm exducer. The GT4202 is a 82mm inducer and I believe about a 74mm exducer (I'd have to check to be sure). As you can see the S400 has plenty of turbine wheel for a bigger compressor and that is why the 80mm versions will make 900hp in a CR application. They do also make a S400 with a 83mm turbine to compete with the GT42.

According to Bulls Eye's site a 74mm has the choice of a 83 or 87mm inducer turbine wheel, that should put the exducer at about 74mm wouldnt it?

GT4202r can be had in various combos, like the s400...

Most common would be 74.7mm inducer and 102.3mm exducer with a 82mm turbine. Able to support up to 1000hp

This is from the Garrett website.

I'm talking about a standard 171702 S400. It comes right out of the box with a 96/88 turbine. That is also what most make into S480's. Yes the 83mm inducer wheel has about a 74mm exducer. They make a standard turbo now that is a clone of a GT4202 called a S400SX. It has a T-4 1.1 AR turbine housing with the 83mm turbine wheel and a 74mm compressor.
