TST, inconsistent power

TST, inconsistent power
I searched but did not find what I was looking for.
I just want to confirm with the 'experts' here - I have the TST and anything over level 3 I get surging type power. I originally thought it was just my clutch slipping but maybe not?
I can hit the throttle while rolling, the truck feels to slow a touch (hesitate) at first then the power starts to kick in. However the power is not consistent. It will start hitting harder, then drop power a touch, then power back up again. It's similar to an old car I had that had a dead spot on the carb. Am I just draining the fuel at those times? If so I thought it would feel differently when that happened.
Thanks.

I should clarify - I have the TST R39 I think (purchased used) so it only allows me to adjust power and torque. I have no way to view or change any other settings that I know of.

I hear ya.
Mine is doing the same thing on TE levels above 3. I can run the power level up to 5 sometimes 6, but 6x4 will drop rail pressure too much for sure. You can see it pretty easy with your EGT's and boost. EGT's go up, power goes down and boost drops slightly or just sits there waiting for the rail to catch up and get it going again. Mine is bad from 2400-2700rpm on high settings.
I guess the fuel is just not atomizing enough at the low rail pressure during that time. We all need to put on a pusher pump! (Sold my FASS last summer, just haven't bought my GDP yet) I was going to take care of that but I decided to have HTS do my trans first. Now with trying to run on higher settings I see this pretty frequent, with the stock trans I never ran at the high settings so I never noticed.

Thanks all - that is what I was thinking but I wanted to be sure. It's killing me not being able to just drop the coin for the clutch and GDP system - life keeps getting in the way!

I dunno about rail pressure boys. My GDP is idling at 42psi....and I had the same issues yall are discussing and few more.
NOTICE that the standard TST program that the R39 uses does not do much til 25psi. THATS my problem, but i have an R47:
Power was 7/5....slowly accelerating it felt stock. Get on it a little, hit 25psi...boost rockets to 50psi or so....then drops back to like 25-30 and steadily pulls well. This power band is a pain to drive with. Sometimes you try to go and it just won't...feels stock til 25psi....then other times you hit 25 in a hurry and pulls away real fast. Does not feel comfortable to me at all! jumpy...man its a mess. I play with LOTS of settings besides 7/5 and couldn't find anything to suit me.
I WAS going to stack Crazy Larry to give the bottom end power but can't do that....former smarty user here. Refer to Luken's long thread about my reference to the Smarty.
SO....for me, its Crazy Larry or TST....Crazy Larry gets my vote everytime. Granted if i had the options of the R49, I might choose it...but i don't...and won't ever find the bottom end of Crazy Larry in a TST from my understanding. Its almost $200 to upgrade to R49 status...then pray adjustable timing lets me stack Crazy Larry....or sell it now and go with 50hp nozzles or scary larry. check the classifieds!
I seem to be weird and most people love the TST...but i already knew i was the minority....i prefer Crazy Larry over a smarty anyday! but thats me and my truck...not yours!

I dont know of many people here in Canada that are running the tst,, and I know we have a lot of big hp trucks up here. That being said, and getting back to the original question, that sounds exactly like it was for me when I had the bully dog on my truck, surging on cruise control, tranny shifted terrible, not sure exactly why, I also tried the ppe exhilerator, did the same things, to a lesser degree, but when I put on the diablo, it worked perfect, the tranny shifted like the tranny I bought, and the power was incredible in comparison. The edge also works excellent, by itself and with the predator...... so that all being said,,, I dunno,,, lol

[QUOTE=cquestad;1279931]It is you rail....42 psi or not of lift pressure...the rail runs dry on higher TST settings...period.[/QUO
/\---What he said.
Your feeding the CP3 fuel, but the piston/cylinders inside the CP3 can only pump so much of it back out to the rail.
