Inconsistent and Sometimes Very Low Idle

The idle on my 97 has become a problem.

Truck starts great, and just needs a very small bit of throttle to fire almost immediately. Runs and pulls loads fine when underway as well. Truck is stock except for the mods in my signature and just rolled over 100K on it. Fuel filter changed in the last 5-10K.

Normally after warming it up and driving for a short bit the idle is right on the 750rpm mark on the tach with the transmission in drive and the air on. Sometimes however the idle is much lower, and if I'm backing a trailer the engine will die if you don't keep some pressure on the accelerator. That's when it happens most although the idle can get pretty low when I'm just sitting at a light.

Other times the idle is fine and right where I set it.

Any advice appreciated

I would suspect someone adjusted the idle by messing with the linkage rather than the correct way.

The linkage must be adjusted as below.

Correct way to adjust idle> http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/adjustm...d_Gen-Idle.htm
Also check that the spring in the above picture is intact and that the linkage ***** aren't worn and sloppy.
