Trans gauge
mine is in the test port. I see about 160 in town and 135 on the hwy.
cruisin back in the dunes while air'd down it reads 190-200. But thats normal with the increased load and minimal air flow.
If im pulling a lot of weight it will show a increase in temp rather quickly. for me it's not really as bad as some have made it sound.

Ok folks, I didn't want to keep bringing these ones up, but after what I did today, I had to.
I was one that thought the test port would be just fine and I ran my gauge there for 70,000 miles on the old trans and 5,000 on my goerend unit. Well, I finally got off my but today and put it in the outpu line.
Now, this is just my experience, but the temps were no where near the same. I can now watch the trans gauge move almost like the pyro. As I pull away from a stop light the temps rise and then once the converter locks up, they start dropping quickly.
also, my trans is showing much warmer temps sitting at redlights and just all around normal driving.
just wanted to give my observation as it is fresh in my mind and I had both setups at some point during the same day. I say get the line.

If you really want an education put 1 in the hot line, 1 in the pan or test port, drop a heavy load behind it and find the worst driving scenario possible. It will quickly become apparent just how useless anything but the hot line is.
I hear ya. the funny thing is that I build my own trans for the race car and I have a gauge in the hot line on it. I guess I just got lazy and left it alone once I had it in teh port because it was quick and easy. I am glad I finally changed it; especially with the new trans.
This is slightly off topic, but I've got the tranny temp gauge on the Attitude, and I'm wondering if anybody knows how accurate they are? The temps seem screwy to me, but I don't really know what they're supposed to be. One thing I know is that even after sitting overnight with no sun on the truck, it'll say that my tranny is warmer than the ambient air
Bad part about where mine is installed is that I had it installed by someone whom I trusted to do it right.
From what Iv been reading on this thread and a couple of others regarding where to put the probe, Im getting the feeling that I got screwed.
Now, it sounds like Im going to have to redo something a "pro" installer should have done in the first place.

The point is, almost all intallers are going to put it in a port or the pan if they don't have another choice.
link to cooler line - http://www.dieselmanor.com/dm_products/DM-CLG3.asp.
They have gauge packages too.
I realize the deeper pans are aluminum with cooling fins, but the fluid in the pan is relatively "cool" since it's already run through the tranny cooler. I would be willing to bet the aluminum pan is actually hotter (due to heat transfer from the case) than the fluid coming from the tranny cooler. That would be a neat experiment!
