The worry about D ratings is sad.

My lowley 37 BFG MT's just passed the 55k mark with a respectable amount of tread left...used daily under a 8k rig with daily driver settings of 550 hp. I regularly gross 20k plus with my 30' goose dovetail flatbed...with a 8x8 upper deck!

Anyways...enough horn tooting. I think it is most important to look at "who" makes the tire, the actual load rating in lbs, and real life experences over the actual D vs E thing. The toyo's, bfg's, procomps, micky's, and PJ's are all "viable" mud tires for these trucks...

There is NO way I would trust the OEM "E" tire with the same abuse I have put my current "D" tires through...heck I just pulled a 3" long x 1/8" welding rod out of a edge tread block and no lek? LOL

Lightman,

I don't mean to rain or your parade or pop your baloon but everyone that I have talked to says the Toyos are not worth a ___ in the snow.

BFG is the way to go! Just the west coast consensus, I guess. It snows here too!

Cq - what pressures are you running?

Runamuk - don't know about 'what you've heard' but the toyos worked awesome in the snow for me in my own experience with them on my last set.. Sacramento doesn't quite get the snow Cleveland does, but whatever works for you is great! We average about 40-50" per season..not alaska but a decent amount.

Geeze I would have thought the Toyo's would be better in the snow with the siping, but I don't know for sure. All I do know is that I too have been waiting for over 4 months and am running out of patience, just about ready to just get the BFG's, I know they are a very good tire.

Lightman,

I run a tad over max in the front...52 psi and vary the rear depending on what I am doing. 42-45 unloaded and up to 52 if I am loaded to the max.

I feel like trying the Toyos this fall if I can get them asap and the price is right from Les Swab...since they are a major player here..tire wise. I am also considering the PJ Dirt Grip if I can get a few honest first hand experiences with them on these trucks...

The Cooper copy of the Toyo also gets my attention, but I worry about whether they are up to the mileage/durabilty factor of a "brand" name tire.

I have been using BFG MT or AT for the last 500k on 3 trucks with nothing but smiles...so I guess I am a little biased. They have always balanced with little or no wieght, provided good traction/ride/low noise in all conditions, and provided exceptible mileage.

I also know a bunch of people that run Dean MT's up here and have fairly good success with them...not quit as good of mileage as BFG's, but mile per dollar, they compare.

I guess...just to mix it up a bit, I will be serious looking to try the PJ's this fall before hunting season, unless somebody comes forward with a horror story.

Maybe up there in the liberal part of the state....

LOTS of problem with BFG's and DW. Take a good look at the Cooper ST. Price is pretty reasonable, ~$100 less/tire than the Toyo's. Sage Carli and a couple other folks are running the snot out of them and they're holding up very well.

If I had 17" wheels, I'd be running them now. They will be my next set of tires, as soon as I can burn the rest of the rubber off these Swampers.

I have two more secret squirrel suspension projects to get out of the way before I can order my Walker Evans wheels........then I can get the Coopers.

Lightman,
Take a look at the Hankooks http://www.hankooktireusa.com/pdf/up...oMT%20RT03.pdf . The second page shows the 35/12.50/R18, they are 10 ply with a load rating of 3,415 lbs @ 65 lbs of pressure. Just a thought!

Nick
