Toyo Open country m/t's...will they ever be available???

Hey guys. I haven't checked back to the forum in a while, but just wanted to post and see if anyone else has had any luck? I have been waiting on this supposed 'backorder' of 35/12.50 R18 open country mt's for about a year now or more.. I don't know what Toyo's problem is, but wondered if anyone else had any luck? I keep getting the 'one more month' crap...reminds me of the days of the edge juice coming out for 305/555's

I have the Nitto Mud Grapplers (the all terrain nittos aren't load range E), and they are obnoxiously loud, although they ride well. You know somethings wrong when you have a 480-500hp diesel with a cool blue pipe, bigger turbo, and exhaust, and all you can hear is tires I can't wait to get these things off and get some Toyos! It's killing me...I have two brand new ones sitting here in my basement and just need 2 more!

I tried getting some for myself and also got tired of waiting and ended up with the toyo m55s (while they so far have been great they are too loud for my taste). I knew they were hard to get so I started shopping early. I was told the same thing next month, next month, next month after six of those I had to get something was starting to run on slicks.

Unfortunately they don't make m55's in my size, although I've already got loud tires...arghh.

I wouldn't get a tire that was unavailable most of the time. ...If you ever had a blow out what would you do.....buy another 4 or 5 tires. Doesn't make sense to me....I bought good old coopers and I have almost 60k miles on them and they still have a 1/3 of the tread left and they come in. They are relatively quiet but have a mud and snow rating for good reason. Good Luck with the pure bred tires....But they look good!!! ks

Lightman, Don't get me wrong I love those Toyos....they are the heaviest tire at that size available....They are also the only E rated tire that has a maximum tire inflation of 65psi. They have a great weight rating at that lower pressure. The tires I was thinking of only have about a 3k weight rating at 65psi and are load range D. 20/32 tread depth versus 21/32 tread depth. But they are in stock everywhere!!!. I'll keep looking. ks

I load my truck up too much for a load range d, and don't want to run max pressure to handle the load and have a harsh ride...unfortunately the toyo mt and the nitto mud grapplers I have on there now are the only E's in that size... I wish toyo wasn't such a retarded company and could get some inventory, life would be good.

Here is what I keep getting told.....

Toyo is in the process of moving its manufacturing facility from Japan to the states (Atlanta, I think) because they simply do not have the capacity to supply what we demand from their facility in Japan. They are encountering some problems in doing so.

So, all the West Coast distributors and dealers have no trouble getting them, but trying to get some here in the Midwest and East is almost impossible because the West Coasters are buying them all before they can get put on a truck or train to us!

By the way Diggity, I was quoted $260 a piece in the 35/12.5/18 size. If they come through it will definitely be worth the wait! List is something ridiculous like $443 and the best I could find elsewhere was $330 or so, but again no availability!

Thanks for the suggestions guys but 35x13.50 is probably a little too wide for me..the 12.50's already will occasionally rub the control arms at full lock, even with my lift. It seems there are a lot of tires in my size, just load range D...annoying!

Smokindog, I thought I was the one who told you that about the production move Maybe not. Anyway I'm not sure if that's true or not, but either way, it's no excuse for a year of backorder status or more. Tomorrow I'm going to call some of the west coast distributors like les schwab and see if they have better luck. Where did you get quoted 260 from? I paid $318/tire locally when I actually found them a year ago, installed with free rotation/balancing at Conrads.

These mud grapplers are just rude! They look pretty cool and ride surprisingly well, but man are they loud!
