I don't think there would be any benefit to a larger diameter tube because it's 4" out of the filter or housing and 4" into the turbo...

My experience with the afe torque tube installed versus the stock setup, is no noticeable performance change of any kind. I have ran with both multiple times. The TT does make the turbo sound louder and easier to hear and it looks pretty .

The benefit of the torque tube is that it is smooth inside for better airflow. I'm sure there is a performance gain but it's not enough to actually feel. Look inside that black tube that's between your airbox and turbo and tell me that there's no turbulence in there.....

It sounds cool, and there's more room to work around then the factory massive plastic tube.

I've had a few people PM me asking for a parts list and installation instructions for the "torque tube" in my gallery. I thought I'd post my response to one of them in this thread in case anyone else was interested.

First of all, I got all of my parts at Air Flow Systems, so the part numbers I list below will be off of their website. If you can find the same parts elsewhere then you might save yourself some money.

Parts:

- Two 90 Degree 4" Rubber Intake Elbows
- Four 4" T-Bolt Clamps
- 6-8 Inches of 4" Aluminum Intake Tubing

Instructions:

It's pretty simple.
1) Remove the stock tubing by loosening the clamps and pulling it off.
2) Install the two rubber elbows (you will need to cut some of elbow that attaches to the turbo to keep it from touching the oil filter)
3) Measure the distance between the two elbows.
4) Add about 3-4 inches to that measurement and cut the intake tubing.
5) Assemble the new "torque tube" by putting the intake tubing between the two elbows.
6) Get everything adjusted the way you want it and then put the clamps on and tigten it up.

It's pretty simple really, but if you have any questions let me know.

I don't have gauges so I don't know how it affected EGT's. What I DO know is that the turbo is much louder now. So, if you like turbo noise, this is a good mod to make.

JPDiesel,

If anyone is interested we had one returned, ordered for the wrong model year truck etc it is like new except for some hose clamp marks on the silicone boots, happens anytime you tighten the clamps etc. Killer price of 60.00 to the first person that wants it.

I've got the same set up as Hoss has, I wound up trimming about 3/4 of an inch off the rubber elbow that mounts to the turbo so as to keep everything straight. Kinda bowed towards the rear before. Only benefit I've been able to tell is more turbo noise. It's not so loud as to be obnoxious, but you CAN hear it. I've still got the silencer ring in mine, you might try it like that first.
