Tone Ring Mod Help
I am going to do the tone ring mod this weekend, and have studied up on it using the search. This is probably a stupid quiestion, but what is the easiest way to take the belt off, and the to get it back on when you are finished. Thanks for your help, as I do not know how to go about doing this.

First off, leave the belt on until you have loosened the crank bolts. They are very tight. I had to use a 3lb hammer to get mine loose and also to tighten them. As far as the belt, there is a tensioner wheel with a spot for you to put a 1/2" drive ratchet in and turn it to loosen the tension. You will need to do this again in order to put the belt back on. Make sure you spin the tone ring the right way while you're laying under the truck. There are a couple knuckleheads who have gotten mixed up while laying upside down and rotated it backwards... I don't want to mention their names, Hoss, so they don't get embarrased.....
I did it too.....

Is there a benefit to doing it that way vs. buying the Rokktech sensor which is the route i went. Took all of 20 min. to install and didnt have to take the belt off or any of that fancy stuff.

Yup! It's free!!
When I did mine I immediately noticed better throttle response and better mpg. Mpg gain wasn't huge but a gain nonetheless. Unfortunately if you run a timing box you will probably get lots of rattle and have to turn it back. With the TST I had to turn mine back to stock...

When I got to the point of loosening the belt I put the braker bar in the tensioner and wired it to something (don't remember what) to keep it there til I was ready to tighten it again. I filed the bolt holes and pin hole and went too far the first try. I think it was at 2.17 degrees and I gained 1/2 mpg and lots of rattle. Then I moved it back to about 1.7 degrees and gained another 1/2 mpg - 1 mpg total. Only slight rattle when cold now. I don't remember the dia. of the ring but I think it's about .070"/degree. I'm glad I used a dial indicator being I had to do it twice! Craig
