TNT-R shifting/stuttering problems on 03-04?

I've been rolling the TNT-R now for a number of months and since I installed it I've been having some shifting/stuttering problems. After talking with my mechanic, we feel its not likely a fueling issue. Excuse my terminology, but when I got to do a boosted lauch and black smoke pours it seems to come off the line alright, but once it gets moving it will stutter for about 3-5secs while choking black smoke and then take back off again. When Im in 4th on the hwy and punch it it revs all the way to the top, which led us to believe that it may be a shifting issue. I've tried a few different TQ management levels now with similar results. Originally I had it on lvl 5 TQ 2, then switched to TQ 4, and still have the same issue. There really wasn't much difference between the two TQ management lvls in regards to this issue, but Im kinda lost on what might fix this problem other than going back to a beta software. I originally thought it might be a fueling/CP3/FCA issue since Im still rolling stock parts in that dept, but due to the smoke during the stutter and the fact it doesn't have issues on the higher end of the RPM range leads us to belive this is not the case.

Anyone have any ideas?

Mine has suttering issues with the smarty if I turn up the timing and tq mgmnt. If I rolling into the throttle then no problem, but if I stabbed it I would get about 4-5 big misses and then the truck would take off but it always seemed to be labored so I figured that there was too much timing involved. I turned the timing to default and the tq mgmnt to stock and the problem is gone. I'm not running the TNT, just the regular revo...

Sounds exactly like whats going on. I'll have to try that out, but what is the default tq setting? I thought it only gave you a choice between 1-4? Also whats the timing default?

Anybody else have any ideas?

SO you are still trying to make TNT work? Just curious as that popping (even if it is only 4or5) can't be good for the truck. I gave up on it and now run beta 4.2/4.3. As for mine, it didn't matter what timing or torque settings I tried on TNT, it popped like crazy. Mine will even POP with regular Revo on timing 4 (most timing). that is how I pretty much determined it was timing related. Bob told me the same thing after this sympton started showing up.

I just refuse to keep beating on my truck to try and make a program work. Can you not run the Beta's?? I think Beta 4.2 is much stronger all around than TNT was on my truck.

Good luck Boss

From what I have seen the 03-04s don't like as much timing as other years. A buddies would pop and bog on default timing with Revo. Once we backed it off to aftermarket injectors it ran great (and MPG timing was really bad)

TOO BAD.... we can't send the beta's back to Bob/Marco, and have them add the options to the software, including the circle around the gear shift indicator. Or better yet, have them add that programming to their website, so us 03/04, S04 & S06 folks could download it to our Smarty's.

There would be a whole bunch of happy 03/04 owners. It is the lack of adjust options on the beta's that keep me from running them.

I wonder if they are listening......

Ron P,
I am still trying to make the TNT-"R" work. The 4.2 is stonger than the TNT, but the "R" value adds a bit more juice and revs to 4K as well as being able to adjust other options. The betas worked just fine for me, but I installed a number of supporting mods to run the 4k tune. After going to that extreme I would like to get it figured out since the tune was originally said to be tested on an 03-04, which I believe I read in a previous post somewhere on here. Plus I spent some of that money we all like to get it there only to have some popping stop me from loving it.

JJP,
I like that idea, and would be happy with that!

Boss, that makes perfect sense as I didn't pay attention to the fact you were going after the RPM. Guess the title makes that clear
It sure would be nice to get some updated word on this issue.

Good luck

Well the only thing is that with an auto mine only hits 4k in 3rd or 4th depending on whether or not the overdrive is on or off. If there's another gear to be shifted to, it won't be hitting 4k. At least from what I can tell.
