Stuttering!!!

My truck is stuttering! It almost feels like a misfire with a gasser. Also if anyone has recommendations for reputable shops around the Columbia, MD area. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any codes?
I bet the VP-44 is dying. Also check the injectors.

i did the fuel filter tonight. the good ol' key trick shows a p1693, i think that only means there's a code. it wouldn't surprise if it's the VP44, i'm at 119k. anyone know of a decent shop either near Oxford, PA or Columbia, MD.

thanks
John

Just an update. I did the fuel filter last night and added a little fuel additive. Running like new today. I’m still going to get the codes pulled to make sure there isn’t anything wrong.

Dealerships really suck. I took it to a dealership to pull codes (stupid me thought they'd do it out of the goodness of their hearts) and it say "transfer pump out of range. So I ask is it the lift pump? they say no it's the tranfser pump in the fuel tank that needs replaced. I **** my head and what??!?!? The guy tells me that Dodge isn't replacing transfer pumps any more and now they upgrade to a different system similar to a gasser with a pump in the fuel tank.

(with my head still cocked sideways) So my injection pump is fine but my transfer pump in the fuel tank needs replaced, is that right? And it needs to be replaced with a new setup? He says yep thats right and that'll be $75 for pulling the codes.

I say are you edit KIDDING ME???!?! So for $75 i found out my injection pump is fine, my lift pump is fine but my transfer pump in the fuel tank needs replaced and it'll be 6 hours + parts.

looks like a holly blue, or a fass for you.. i run my holly blue with the junk lift pump inplace. i get plenty of pressure and saved me like 400 buck from the new intank replacement.. also you can rebuild the holly pumps for cheap . but the f.a.s.s. unit is far superior

Take your truck from that dealership and RUN. Unless you have already had the in tank pump put in , there is NO pump of any sort in the tank, there is just the LP on the side of the block , which has likely died. Check your fuel pressure!

A better choice for replacement than the new in tank pump (which i have heard can still suffer FP problems) is an aftermarket setup , FASS , Walbro , anything but the stock LP , unless you put in a relocation kit.

Even if you want to keep it stock, I bought a Carter replacement LP at Orielly's with a lifetime warranty for $230. It took me 30 minutes to fix it.

I've thought about buying a cheap spare just in case the Cater lays down on me in the middle of BFE and I would still come out cheaper than the FASS.

Since my Lift Pump is starting to go, do you guys think I can still tow my 5er this coming weekend? I've had a short trip planned for a while. I'm going to try and find a shop to do the FASS 95 this week if I can. But wondering if I can still do my trip.

Thanks

I wouldn't suggest it, but I did it not knowing that my LP was dead and nothing has broke YET. I' m sure I shortened my IP life though.
