The Holley blue pump is a racing fuel pump that has been very popular among drag racers for many years. You can buy it at most any auto parts store, but they are likely a little cheaper through the catalog stores like Summit Racing or Jeg's.

Question

will the holly blue work connected to the original LP wiring [amp and fuse spec.]? and what fuel pressure will it deliver to the VP44 with the original LP removed but pushing thru the original filter canister? Also wonder if this install effects any electrical codes?

I bought a 2002,3500,4x4,6spd with 215,000mi. in texas, sputtered, bucked and died in tenn. on way to Pa! Towed to 3 different garages who refused to install aftermarket pump since I REFUSSED the dodge in tank retrofit.[ why hide it. So the last tow was to the local auto parts store parking lot, where I eventually spent the night removing the LP and plumbing in the holly blue pump. I had plenty of flow but no idea of pressure to the vp44 and could not start the motor. After hiring help to crank it and much bleeding [me and the fuel/injecter lines!] the cummins fired up and I left tennesee.

During the remainder of the trip back to Pa. the motor never left me sit again but would flat line [de-accelerate?] especially when in 6th gear running around 1700-2100 rpms. I found I could for the most part avoid this by running at 80 plus mph or turn the ignition key off/on quickly and the motor would respond and take off again. Thus, down shifting int 3rd to bring up the rpms with my right hand while holding the tiller steady with my knee and by reaching accross, turning the key off/on with my left hand, I was able to make the 800 miles or so back home!

Question-what should I do now to clean up my road side Ricky install of the holly pump [reccommended wire size, connections, preffered fuel line and fittings, location etc,?] and whats going on with the erradic de-accelerating symptoms? Pre emergency repair codes by dealer were p0216,p0122 and p0230. Cost to correct was only $3400.00 !!!!!! HELP

Well, the problem with the deceleration sounded like it might be the VP44 injector pump but the first code you posted, the 0216, that pretty much verifies it. Unfortunately, that code only gets sent when the VP44 is having internal issues. BUT, before you go off looking for a new or rebuilt VP44, it would be best to check your fuel pressure, with a gauge, and make sure it's within operating limits. Other than an over-pressure issue, then it's gonna be your VP44's rattled for the last time. I am not sure what kind of output your Holley is putting out so that's why I mentioned the pressure check. If you were running the stock LP and it had those same symptoms, it would point to a dead VP44. Hope this helps.

thanks, the holly package listed it as 14psi, 110 gph. My gauge didn,t work at the shrader [?] valve at the injector pump and I didn't have plumbing fittings to test pressure at the line while I was on the road, but I will soon.
