Has anyone sold any aftermarket parts on here?

Hey I am trying to sell some parts on here and I had a question. I am not sure how the money transfer thing goes. Do I need paypal or can I do another type of secure transaction. What would you guys recommend. I do not want to get ripped off in the deal by sending the parts and not getting any money in return. Im sorry if this is in the wrong thread and thanks in advance for the help.

John

I always use PayPal. At least that way you have some sort of protection if you get screwed by someone. When I sell I always expect to be paid in advance. If a potential buyer doesn't trust me then he just won't get to buy from me. Now, if they want to pay with a check that's fine too but I will not ship until it clears the bank. If they want to pay by money order then I will only accept a USPS one. Western Union money orders can be cancelled after the buyer gets your stuff and you may lose that money plus the parts you sent.
When I buy, I use PayPal only unless I can pick the parts up in person. Anyone buying parts, including me, takes a risk when they send money in advance. There is really no way to be 100% sure you won't get hosed. You just have to trust people. Often times I go to the member's profile and look at their posting history. You can learn a lot about someone by doing that...
I have paid with a money order before but only because the member would accept no other form of payment. Had he not been a long time member then I would not have done it.
I have bought items from members here that would not accept payment until I received the items and was happy with them. I am sure that they only did this for me because I have been around here so long. I have also done the same for other long time members. Doing this is really up to you.
Hope this helps...

Paypal only gives you protection when you buy through ebay. If you send and payment not through ebay and the seller rips you off there is nothing you can do. Paypal can't take the money back and dispute outside of ebay. Been there done that. I bought a sent of injectors (not here) supposed to be in perfect condition. Installed them, my truck ran like crap. Sent them to don and they all had high return rates needing rebuilding. Did the paypal dispute tried to get my money back and return them. Paypal wouldn't do anything.

So far I have never sold anything on here, but I have bought many items. I have used Paypal, money orders and personal checks and have not had a bad experience yet!(Knocks on wood).

I am a little old school I guess. I don't want to mess over the guy buying my used parts. I talk to them ( you learn a lot) ship the part and get a check when they get it. Most guys on here are good honest people. I have sold a few things and all the cheques have been good. I have bought things by sending a check and waiting for it to clear too. I always ship collect though. All that I am out is a used part.

I might get stung someday. Now anybody want an EZ for an '03

Hmmm, I thought I was protected anytime I use PayPal. That's good to know. You can still have protection by choosing that PayPal gets your money from a major credit card. You will then have the CC company on your side. I just hate to use a CC though......

I've used PayPal for years without issue. Only recently I have switched to a different thing called GunPal. It is exactly like PayPal, except it doesn't discriminate based on politics and the type of items you're buying/selling.

If I know the guys I'm buying from, I feel comfortable paying with a MO or check, along with PayPal

I like using PayPal for buying things cause its free. However if you sell something with PayPal and try to cash out your money you will pay a fee. I've only sold small things with PayPal so I usually just leave the funds in there till I buy something else.

I know some people that charge extra if you want to with PayPal to cover the charges they will incur when they cash out the funds.

Paypal tip: If you select "Gift" when sending payment, no fees are charged.

If you are conducting regular business, be careful using that tip

I've sold a few parts on here and other places and it's always payment before I ship anything. Just like the real world, payment up front.
