switched power source
switched power source
I am installing a sat radio PNP unit, and want a clean install. I need to find a switched power source to connect the unit to so that I can hide the power cord. is there an easy source available? I noticed a bundle of wireds in the kick panel on the passenger side when I was installing the modulator - is there a switched power wire in that bundle I can use? Thanks for any help provided.
I can speak for all of them but I know that the sirius unit has a converter built in to the lighter adaptor. So if you want to hide the power you will have to build in a lighter socket somewheres. What I am going to do is add a ligher socket on the inside of the dash and splice it into the existing lighter wires

Sorry - I have a 2006 QC CTD. Is there a way to get to a switched power source without popping out the bezel? What a PIA that is trying to take all the pieces off before getting to the bezel. I do want to add another socket to hide under the console. Can I use any of the wires in the kick panel?
Casey, in my last truck I had the Sirius sportster model. I did a install to the roof liner in front of where the overhead console would be. I ran all the wires up the driver side pillar and up above the headliner which makes a nice clean install. It is easy to see and out of the way. However, you do need to go and get another cigarette lighter inlet and splice in behind the existing inlet. The Sirius power cord with the cig lighter has a filter in it. That filter helps eliminate engine noise coming thru. Trust me as I have done 4 installs. I have done 2 Fords and 2 Dodges. I have tried straight wiring into the existing cig lighter power, aux power and switched power. All give a little engine noise which some people can hear and it will drive you nuts. Hope this helps ..... PM me and i will send you a pic of what the install looks like...
