Question Good source for switched 12volt under the hood ?

I need a source switched 12 volt to energize my field.

Long story short she stopped charging, did some digging and found previous owner/abuser had installed transpo D7018 conversion regulator.( it doesn't need switched 12v it ties to both field terminals ground and B+)

I saw the thread on the transpo IN8315 and thought that looked good got new nippondenso alt , and that regulator.

P.O. had bent both field terminals out of the way when he did his voodo, my multimeter showed neither had 12 volt with the key on, which you need for the IN8315.

Was running out of light but did test at the relay and no joy it had 12 in but the wire to the alt was not hot with key on, swapped relay same result.

Finally to see that my new alt and regulator worked I hot wired the orange field wire to the batt and got just shy of 14 volts WOOHOO at least the new parts are good.

So anyway I've run a new wire from the field terminal I want hot with the key on and wonder if anyone had any suggestions what to heat it up with ?

Sorry if I'm rambling I've been fighting with this since I got home (early no less) and am whupped.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Fuel solenoid is KEY-ON HOT.

Let that trigger a relay that switches a HOT wire to power the field.

Or use the fuel solenoid trigger the relay that is supposed to be feeding the field 12 volts as it seems the PCM isn't... hummm :-)

Thank you for the suggestion to use that as a source, heck might even be a good time to do the pull cable mod i've been wanting to do anyway.

Any dark blue wire is hot with the key on.
