Stanadyne "Fuel Manager" filter units(?)
Stanadyne "Fuel Manager" filter units(?)
Looking into a Stanadyne "Fuel Manger" filter unit (w/the optional 150W heater spear) as a pre-filter setup for my trucks spare tank this winter. Unfortuntely, there arent a whole lot of posts regarding the stanadyne units here on the forums... so I'm looking for any advice or someone running a similar stanadyne setup. Also looking for a reasonable online supplier that carrys the "fuel manager" line.

Its sure looking like I'm gonna be the guinea pig ... there isnt much time left before the last shred of warm weathers gone. I was the thinking the extra heat from the heating spear might allow me to test a 50/50 mix of filtered/settled veg oil & diesel and/or a 50/50 blend of waste motor oil & diesel from a few oil changes I have lying around... tho I've heard there's a great deal of smoke produced when burning any precentage of wmo with diesel???
Anyway, I'll post soon as I track down a stanadyne deal online and get it up and running on the spare tank. In the meantime maybe a few more folks will jump in with some thoughts...

I wouldn't do that with a common rail engine. Older Cummins would be ok but newer common rails are more finicky when it comes to fuel. Your injectors are expensive. Shoving anything other than very clean (and I cannot stress the very clean part) diesel fuel thru them is a crap shoot at best. At worst it'll crack an injector possible trashing your motor.

I dont wanna stray too far from my orginal Stanadyne filter search/research here but I have poured over the internet and have done extensive research and found quite a few folks who've had long term success with a proper veg oil conversion (ie proper heating & starting/stopping on diesel). I've actually heard of way more problematic issues w/after market power mods & programmers.
Ok, as long as your doing "proper heating" etc.... I thought you were just gonna pour the stuff in your tank and go. Using the correct filtered oil heated properly would be fine. Just didn't want you to damage anything. I myself would love to do the natural gas thing but's its expensive.
