Stacking boxes... Which ones to stack?

Is there anywhere I can read up on the different options on box combinations and what they are for (as in what results different combinations will give, eg. more torque for towing, or a better combination for racing only or..)? I've been reading and researching as much as I can on here and using the search function, but I only find different combos mentioned, but not what each box does. Such as the TST, then theres the Van Aken, obviously the smarty and other programmers. I'm familiar with the flash tuners and how they work, but not with how you combine them with other "boxes" I'm confused with what you stack with what... If that makes sense. Any help or links you can provide so I can keep learning here would be great. I want to be prepaired and have some good background before I spend a bunch of money on tuning!

Thanks,
Jason

That is a start but really doesn't address the newest stuff like diablo or quad for instance. And praises Banks which was true then... not now. And it is 03-04 stuff.

In my opinion... you start with Smarty and go from there. Others like Bully Dog fewer still like Diablo and VA.

With Smarty as the programmer, right now the best stack is TST. Although I am excited to see how Quads new x2 stacks up as they have the selectable/stackable files. It may just be tailor made for this.

Remember you have to have the supporting mods to go with it! LP & Cp3... Tranny, turbo... otherwise you are wasting money and will be disappointed trying to stack and get all out performance when it can't happen.

from what ive seen the tst stacked good with a smarty and the bully dog downloaders. the juice and the power pup worked ok also. Ive got a diablo puck stacked with a smarty now and it does ok. ive got a couple codes from it. but I did out of the tst also. the smarty is good to run because it is about the only thing you can run without timing. the smarty runs good on its own. from what ive seen the smarty by itself does pretty well. Bully dog & edge worked good for me also

Why would you want to run it without timing? Thats just when it stacked with another box right? Assuming I just get a smarty, is it worth it to spend extra $$$ to stack it with another box if the truck has stock injectors and turbo? What level of mods are needed to take advantage of stacking boxes?

The short answer is no. The Smarty can drain the rail on its own in certain circumstances. If it is, there is no point in adding another box until you can get more fuel. That is a lift pump and possibly a modded CP3. You need a tranny too. You can keep the stock turbo, just realize it has its limits. Same with the injectors.

jason,
one thing that might help is to fill out your signature so we all know what you have so you don't get wrong info.

Here ya go... Does that help??? I don't even have the truck yet (well I thought I did but it sold before I got there!) I'm just trying to research as much as I can about these trucks so I'm ready to go when I get it. I'm not new to diesel performance, but this will be the first Cummins I've owned. (I used to have a powerstroke.... don't tell anyone!)

I run the Diablo Predator/Puck stack with a Quadzilla boost fooler. I made 462 HP / 816 TQ with this stack with a slipping clutch. This stack only cost $451 from an online vendor. I so need to upgrade the clutch, and fuel before I can take full advantage of the power. For now I just drive around on predator only on performance.
