What does a smoke switch do?

the smoke switch mod tells the ecm the engine is at full boost, full boost means it needs full fuel, since you are at a low boost level when you hit the switch, you get excessive fueling for the air you have flowing, which gives you black smoke.
not a bunch, but its there.

 

just buy a TST with the tt03 and tt05 settings and you'll have all the smoke u want.

 

how much does a smoke switch cost and is it harmful to the engine?

 

you need 2 t-taps, 2 spade lugs to go into them, about 10 feet of 16gauge wire, 1 on/off toggle switch.
about $6.00
hasnt hurt mine in over a year. just makes it think you're at full boost, which is a normal condition.
