Smarty Timing Rattle

Does everyone's motor rattle on the odd sw#'s? I'm not worried about it, just wanted to make sure it's normal...seems like from other posts seems fairly common....

Noop, late 06' and 07' trucks seem to have more rattle. If you are running the Revo tune just change it to the aftermarket injector setting. It will decrease the timing a little and hopefully make that rattle go away. That is what most people do that have this issue.

The Beta 4.2 rattled a lot. The TNT does not rattle on any setting on my 07.

My truck rattles pretty good with the 4.4. The noise does not bother me that much as long as it does not hurt anything. Is it hard on anything?

The way I look at is diesels are supposed to rattle. That has been their characteristic all along till the common rail came along and the timing got retarded. Try listening to a first or second gen before you get too excited. These are not gassers! Don't think something is wrong just because they don't sound like gassers! Diesel engines running properly have alot to say. So listen to them and enjoy it.

A little additional rattling isn't hurting anything. With it comes better efficiency (power and fuel economy) and lower EGTs.

Our CR engines are heavy retarded in timing for emission reasons (lower NOx).
