If I can chime in with a quick question. Does increased timing setting improve mpg? Because the sheet that comes with the jr. shipped with version 5.14 states that tm 4 would yield the best mpg, provided you have good fuel quality.

I recently got mine and started at SW 1 tq4 tm 4 pod 99 and mpg dropped nearly 2 mpg (hand calc)

Just went to SW 1 tm 2 tq 2 and mpg has improved but haven't filled yet for results

The paperwork is older than the Software. Set it on SW1 TM2 TQ1 or TQ4 for the best mileage. TM4 should still do slightly better than stock, are you sure it wasn't your right foot making it drop?

AH64ID,
Hope all is well brother...

Just to jump in here, I wanted to MAKE SURE I understand the "new" changes to the settings from the latest update considering I just upgraded the trans and am now running the SW3 tune.
TQ 2 & TM 2 would yeild the most power & throttle respose, correct?
I feel confident that TM 2 is the most timing (most aggressive), I just need to confirm that TQ 2 yeilds the most aggresive throttle response??
Again, SW3 is a beast on the top end at HWY speeds. There just seems to be a very mild lag from a dead stop at spool up.
Thanks for the help here (I feel like we have covered this before, but I could not find your commnets anywhere...)

AH64ID,
I just got a smarty jr 5.14b, currently on sw1 and want to go to sw2. What would be your suggestion on settings? Its an 05 3500 manual trans, boost, egt and trans temp gauges. Banks air box and filter, mbrp cat back exhaust. Also do you have numbers of what this should bring as far as hp and tq?
Thanks

As for EGT's your stock EGT's were in the 1450° range, but if you go that hot with added timing you will melt something.
Here is what I use...

Smarty Jr rule of thumb for 04.5-07 5.9's.

TM1: 1400 max cont, 1450 momentary
TM2: 1300 max cont, 1350 momentary
TM3: 1350 max cont, 1400 momentary
TM4: 1250 max cont, 1300 momentary
I never go over 1200 (measured before turbo) on base SW2 settings even pulling a 15000lb %er through the mountains here in BC/Alberta. It is mostly about driving style. You have to drive to the pyro you will never do damage. And don't forget the turbo cooldown.
I have a 2-1/2 year old version (do not remember the #) but my torque and timing control is my right foot. I get good mileage empty and towing the 5er. 16mpg all up towing and 26 empty at about 65mph. (Thats imp gallons = 20% higher than US)

I would run SW2 default timing and 3 on torque.

Probably 350/700 to the ground, maybe a little more.

Hey all.. I am new to the world of diesel and I see a lot of seasoned brains here I can pick...I recently bought a 2006 Ram 2500 with 5.9, manual shift, 38" tires, and 3.73 gears..I just purchased a Smarty jr. And kinda overwhelmed with the multitude of tuning choices ..any ideas for initial setup? Thank for the input!

I would try SW1 or SW2 all defaults to start.
