Smarty Clarification: What is "Torque Management"?

So... just got my Smarty yesterday -- set it to #3 up front and I hate to admit it, but wow it makes a difference even there.

So, to my question, what exactly does "Torque Management" mean? It seems that all it's really doing is adjusting throttle response, is that correct? The more aggressive the "Torque Management" setting, the more aggressive the throttle tip in is, right? No? Anyone?

Thanks in advance all!

Correct me if im wrong, but i know on my dodge 1500, the torque management was part of the ecm that reduces torque as the speed increases, to help with the fuel mileage, maybe its diff. on the diesels, im sure someone will chime in

Tq Mgmt on the diesel's neuter's the amount of fuel provided down low in the rpm band...in order to protect the stock 48re from the torque the 5.9l can make from a stop....

When you reduce tq mgmt (more agressive)...it provides more fuel down low, spools turbo quicker, makes more smoke (pre boost), harder on stock transmissions, better throttle sensitivity.....all in all, great stuff!

Fill in your signiture so we have more info....

If you have a stock auto trans, Wild is not recommended by MADS....or anyone that wants to keep their trans in good condition....some have done it, but the laws of physics and probability are against you!

In essence then, as I have the manual tranny, as long as I'm gentle with the clutch, it shouldn't make that big of a deal, right? I'm currently using the factory programming (which I think was 4.11C w/mild torque management) on the Smarty.

I've got a set of Isspro gauges coming this week (pyro, EGT, fuel pressure) and then I'll fell a little more comfortable playing with it. I've already noticed in city driving increasing from 16 mpg to almost 17... which at ~$4.20/gal for Diesel is a welcome addition. (we'll ignore the almost $700 I spent to get the smarty, right? :P )

Always ignore the cost of perfromance upgrades vs fuel savings...that's how you convince the wife!

I have an auto, so i'm not sure, but i believe the main benefit of less tq mgmt with a stick is the throttle response....but the smoke increase still holds as well.

I will say this much you having a g-56 that clutch will probly slip sooner than you think, mine would not even last the timing only setting

Bob told me that torque management, was less, to no, defueling between shifts. I am not sure how that pertains to a manual trans?
