Smarty / "torque Management" / Van Aaken

From what I've read in here the Smarty disables the factory
"torque Management" feature and allows for full fueling through
out the rpm range. Do add on boxes like my Van Aaken V5 do
this ? My truck pulls real good down low , but really "lays down"
when I go over 2200-2300 rpm. Is this the factory program
defueling at upper rpm's ?

As far as I know no other box does what the smarty does. The smarty has no equal. The smarty is god. Bow down to the smarty. It rules all.

Won't be a problem, my HRVP might push it alittle to the hot side, but still not out of controll yet. Never had a problem with the stock pump as far a EGT's go. I also have a southbend Con OFE waiting to go in.

With the smarty I would recommend an adjustable boost elbow if you don't already have one. Set if for about 30psi and you should be good to go.

Mine doesn't "lay down" at all in that range. If you haven't modified the boost elbow, it probably will. I blocked mine off and it made a huge difference. I don't have injectors as yet, but I imagine they will perk things up a bit.

Get an adjustable elbow. One will be added to mine when I get the injectors. Btw, if you DO get the 1.6's and want to get rid of your 275's, PM me and maybe we can make a deal. I think I want to stay conservative and I believe the 275's are the ticket.

Boost Elbow does nothing to control defueling. Jaxn51, you have an HO. Low end defueling is an automatic tranny thing.

DIESELCAMPER - The Smarty will eliminate this defueling...AND the top end defueling at 2700 rpm, as Bob said.
So buyer beware....without the low end defueling, your on your own when it comes to NOT breaking an imput shaft, if power braking!
But most of us would much rather be in control of that possibility, rather than have the computer protect us from ourselves. (Dodge designed it that way...for the uninformed)

The Smarty DOES rule!

Ahhh, thanks for the correction, I read his question wrong. I thought the wastegate was opening and slowing things down a bit. Much to learn, I have. (Yoda)

However, on a second read, his sig line says it is a 6-speed, so might that not indicate his wastegate opening sooner as the boost builds more quickly? Like around the low 2k's? Mine kinda felt like that at first and when I installed the new intake stuff it improved, but it still ran out of breath until I blocked off the wastegate. After doing that it pulled hard to 3200........

I'm just a guy with insatiable curiosity about diesels, now that I own one. If I make a statement and get corrected by someone more in the know than I, then I learn something new. It's all good!

Your right, Yoda I mis read...assumed auto, based on his "lay down" comment. Don't know of any defueling on HO....other than top end!
