The answer is yes to both. You can run any and all settings... but...

Banks adds timing and Smarty can add timing. If you run the smarty on the odd numbered sw's (1,3,5,7,9) they add timing and therefore do not turn Banks past 3. If you run even numbered sw's (2,4,6,8) you can run the Banks all the way to 6.

Regardless of what you do, realize the Banks will hold you back at a certain level. It won't let you pass certain thresholds that are the built in safties. Like 40 psi boost for instance.

No problems, download and go. Don't forget to return to stock before giving your friend back his Smarty jr...

Well the tranny is a must if you want to use smarty on upper levels... after that, it is just supporting mods that you don't have to have to run smarty but may want to do to take advange of the smarty potential. After the tranny work, you can run the regular smarty tunes and really not have to do anything else but watch your gauges. But you will... I promise.

The Smarty SR, mainly because 100hp just isn't enough for me.

And truthfully, just ditch the Banks, its not gonna help, get you some gauges if you don't have some and make you some money back on that banks. I used to run the 6-gun and though it was excellent for towing, it just didn't do the trick. Sold it to another guy who as far as i know still has it and is satisfied with it for what it is alone.
