Take off your air tube and it's on the inside of your turbo. You can pop it out with a screw driver or use a pair of needle nose pliers and it will come right out.

Just a 3/4 round piece of spring steel that is in there to help tone done the whistle from the turbo when it spools up. I like the little extra sound it gives inside the cab. Doesn't do much of anything else.

Do a search on " silencer ring removal" theres a guy who posted a bunch of pics of the ring and the removal. Doesnt do anything but quiet down the turbo whistle. Non existent in anything else with the same motor except the ram. While your at it, remove the baffles in the big black tube in between the two elbows. Only a muffler to help shut the turbo up, this is where you'll gain the most turbo music . Do a search for " intake muffler "

Isn't that whistle part of the benefit of a turbo. To let everyone else know that the truck is about to come alive..

I 'finally' got around and removed the silencer ring this morning. Slightly more turbine whine.
So now I just order a piece of 5" aluminum tubing from Air Flow Systems to replace the intake baffle.

Is there any performance gain to removing the silencer ring or intake baffle?

No performance gains. Just more noise.

Here you go!

here are a few pictures that will help you see what we are talking about.

silencer ring in front of the turbo

silencer ring and snap ring removed

trubo without the silencer ring

no performance gain whatsoever. just makes the turbo sing louder.

now that you have removed the silencer ring you need one of these:

MPC Intake Pipe

it will really be loud after this.

Hey T-7 Firefighter, Where do you get the air intake tubing replacement from. Looks pretty clean. Gutted the baffles out but I'd like to replace it. Thanks.
