silencer ring
I recieved my piece of Alum. from Air Flow Systems today and cut it myself on the workbench with a hacksaw....that was more work than I would have preferred! But, it worked. I rubbed it good with some steel wool and then polished it with some Alum. polish and installed it. I kept my old intake tube with baffles in place, just in case I ever want to reinstall it....I did cut out the white guides inside the elbow though and trashed them. I haven't taken it out on the road yet, but I'm really looking forward to hearing it....

Well, I had the truck on the road for quite awhile today and I think it sounds good. Its really NOT nearly as loud as I was expecting with the alum. tube and the sil. ring out. I love the whooshing sound and the zing, but its really not Annoying-loud at all. To be honest, I was hoping for a little more noise.

OK, extreemly new here, but did a search and found this thread,so I purchased the mpc stainless tube and have removed the silencer ring,(thanx to t-7 firefighter's handy pics and everybody's great info),but I did leave the white air guides in the bottom elbow,(does that make any difference?) Having a otherwise stock intake system,I can hear the turbo better, plus the old buzzard likes diesels, so more turbo whistle the better, she says. Any ways, I want to say thanks for the great info! Now I'm gonna search for a good BHAF and some exhaust tricks!
How loud really???
Ok, so you guys say when you replace the tube its loud.. like as loud as a Scotty II in a 2nd Gen with the hole cut? or not quite thaaat loud? Wife is driving the '05 and she never complained about the noise with the Scotty in the '99, but I would still like to be able to hear it when I can pry the keys from her clutches.....
