I say paint them Red, or leave them black and start ditching the chrome.

Leave them Black. As stated, paint chips will just upset you. You already have some black on there, it looks fine. I painted flares on a Chevy I used to have, and they did llok good. Problem was stone chips - a new one almost daily. Painted flares look like garbage with paint chips.

I do travel on dirt roads a lot. Now I can't decide if I want to get rid of the chrome and Linex the rockers and fender flares and add black recons and headlights or paint the fender flares and mirrors and keep the chrome

Paint them. I travel lots on dirt roads as well and mine are a little pitted on the rears. Just cover the front side of the rears in 3m and you'll be laughing.

I would definately paint them red and then cover them as much as possible with the clear 3M (that stuff is awsome)...

BUT I have another idea for you (I have been wanting to do it to my truck but not had the time)... Black out the B pillar area, the area between the front side window and rear side window... Just take it to a sticker shop and have them cover the area with black sticker; make it flush with the top of the windows that way at a glance it will look like one continous window instead of broken up... If you want to see what I am talking about look at alot of new cars and even the new ram.... The best part is if you don't like it you can just peel off the sticker....

I think it would be one of those mods that would make your truck look a little better then the truck next to it, but not one can really pin point why...

If you're keeping the truck for a long time I'd read this thread before it's too late...

If you decide to keep them paint them red though...
