if BW is making it for ats....i wonder if its as simple as a housing change minus the maching for the exhaust but id probably rather fabricate the exhaust to the turbo than vice versa... hell, it cant be that simple...thats too easy......but then again.....anybody know if there is a part # difference b/w the K31 exh. housing and the A5K ehaust housing? i might try to make my own for the heck of it.......anyone care to look for me?

Good way to make friends around here. Put the attitude away

The ATS Aurora 5000 uses a custom machined exhaust housing, custom exhaust outlet that bolts on, also ATS provides an outlet pipe for the turbo to connect to your intercooler. The kits for the Aurora's have changed a bit over the last couple of years. Most will have to do some fab work for the intake (as I did as well as others).

The A/R of the Aurora 5k is like .80-.90 T3 inlet
The A/R of the K31 Performance is 1.32 T6 inlet (huge)

The ATS unit is based off of a K31 Performance from Borg Warner....If you bought a A5K kit the K31 performance can be used a bolt in back up (sans the turbine housing) if the 5k fails...but ATS offers a 3yr/150k miles warranty with their 5k's.

The 5k is a good turbo but its not for the light hearted. It is big and laggy. You might be happier with a 66,64 or 62mm. The 5k has a 71mm compressor (you might know that already though).

***I think something is broken with the search option because I used to be able to find old threads of mine now I am hitting a dead end.

I don't think you'll like the A5K on the 94. It spools very well on the common rail because the common rail likes to spin big turbos. We put the A5K on a 600 hp 12 valve and it would bark, surge, and buck. If you have a lot of fuel on the common rail, you'll like it.

The only problem with the A5K on the 04.5 and up truck, is the low boost code.

Yeah, we had one in. It would just through the low boost code every once in a while. Sometimes it just takes the right RPMs, right load, and a little low boost to make that code come up.

The a5k is fine on a standard, i wouldn't want one myself on an auto. Drives fine, lites soon enough. Never towed with it but it wouldnt faze me to put 10k behind it. What are you suppose to expect from such a big turbo, if you have problems with it its your own fault for not realizing what it was built to do.
